Like the first one much more... but the background seems cluttered - do you have a clean white or great wall you could pose against?

How far were you from the camera? Seems a bit close. The lighting is a bit harsh on the right side. I can't tell if you are trying low key or high key here. If you were trying low key then block some of the light or try to bounce it. If you were trying to get a high key protrait, it usually needs to be bright on all areas besides the eyes hair and such and the back ground should be as white as the subject.

really like the second one a lot. I like the tones & the composition. Good stuff!

I'm for the 2nd one, but do keep at it. I like the gritty, up-front feel to the 2nd one. You look kinda smug in the first one! Whenever I take photos of myself, I always look like a crook.

i like the 2nd one, too. not too crazy about the tone...just a personal preference, though.

thanks for all the kind comments.. i wanted it to be a harsh lighting situation, i am aware of high key and low key at least on theoretical level, but i try to deviate from the norm whenever i can... |
