Thought this piece up on CNN would be of interest to most of the people here. Wanted to share it with you all.

It boggles the mind that it's 2012 and we still compare photography with reality. Photography doesn't capture reality. It never has and never will. Had Chris Clor's photo been a painting, this article wouldn't exist.

I'd really like to know what the story was from either the photographer or the one born from that viewer's imagination. 9 times out of 10 when a photo is said to have a "story", it doesn't. At least not the kind worth telling. Now I'm all for photos that are vague and leave a lot to the imagination, provided it actually goes somewhere, but if at the end of the day all you have is a red light coming from a mailbox chances are the story sucks.

I disagree with the story thing.. I see a story in darn near every photograph, It may not be the "story" the photographer was intending to tell, but photo's intrigue me because of the story.. For instance Brent_S profile shot.. I imangine he's at a New Years eve party all the glitter n glitz going on in the background, Cory, even he's headed for class on a collage campas somewhere... Yeah I know the college of smart-azz .. LOL

The red light mail box, there are a ton of hooker fairy's inside the red light district...

Ya know he was a poor mountainer, barely kept his family fed.

Actually, I think his house was on fire.

And here's a story of a lovely lady who was bringing up three very lovely girls...

And this one tells a tale. A tale of a fateful trip...

And finally (yes, I am done), the story of the effects of growing up watching TV in the 1970's.

Well, from that story, I learned about this photographer. Fascinating work in my opinion.

Oh no, you aren't going to start urinating on your prints now are you Ben? ;)
Actually, I'm not so sure about some of his prints splashed with liquids. But somehow I think a print done on paper made from products from the captured scene is kind of cool.
