I totally agree, that's why I wrote : "For those that want to" |

There is an older Facebook page that I remembered seeing a year ago. I think this was made 2008. The newer FB page mentioned by the OP was fairly recent... ah, here's the original DPC thread...

I was wondering why it was dead on dpc fb. I think it's a great idea. |

Sorry I originally ignored this thread, because I don't really enjoy facebook much, and only check it maybe once a week. But I misunderstood the original intent. A site I own has a facebook page, and we've actually gotten a few new members through it alone. Probably more photographers on facebook than my target audience even.
The key to a good facebook page, is content. Whomever started it, needs to populate it with content... or at least winning photos or something. I'll give it a like. |

Jennifer, the idea has merit. It is definitely *ONE* way to draw in new members.
In the meantime while we push for the idea of an fully operating FB page-
everyone who does have a FaceBook (or any personal blog) could help by writing about the merits of DPC be it about 'just placed ______ in this challenge', 'One reason why I like/love DPC' 'DPC taught me how to accomplish _____ camera technique' 'learned from DPC how to post process my image using ______' etc. Every little bit of word of mouth helps.
For those DPCer's who have done this, that is wonderful. I'd encourage you to keep doing it because sometimes it takes 'several mentions' of a specific thing to get someone to sign on and many more before they might move from being a "Watcher" to a participant.

Agreed. I've had a lot of photography contacts on FB for a long time, but really only checked in once or twice a week to see what my kids were up to. What actually got me using it a lot is when I added some cycling contacts. FB then became my best way of finding group rides and other events, then finding out who all those people were afterwards. I think the issue with the photography is that I already knew all the people on other forums, and those other forums are where the communication actually happened.

I think having a working FB link that provides updates on challenge winners and new challenge topics is a great idea. The key will be to have these show up on the timeline of folks that 'like' or 'join' the webpage.
The issue I see with the current version of the FB link is that the posts are all shown down the side and the actual images posted don't show up in the DPChallenge FB timeline. It is essentially blank. I am not sure how to fix the issue, but figure someone FB savvy could help out fixing that issue. |

I believe a facebook group, instead of a page, would solve all the issues mentioned so far. |
