as i mentioned above, AI servo is only available in sports mode.
AI focus is being used in most creative modes, but not in sports mode.
point selection auto focus is used on most of the creative modes.

Auto focus will lock in Av and P mode if you hold the button half way down. I just tried it, works fine for me.

right but he asked spcifically about AI servo mode, and how to get it to work.

just because focus is locked on the subject doesnt mean its going to track it if it moves.

EDIT - to clarify wording.

I'm pretty surprised. I had been considering a 300D, but if all the modes where you can control exposure are all AI-servo that's pretty bad.

For me this is the single biggest pain in the rear on the 300D. It forces me to use full-time manual focus on many occasions. I am hoping someone will come up with a usable patch -- official or not -- to the micro code to remove AI servo.

Wait..AI Servo is in Sports Mode only, right? And not in Av,TV,P,or M

and what does AI-Focus mean?

AI-Servo will automatically track a moving object and keep it in focues...

theres a pretty crude hack for the d-reb to get AI-Servo (i dont even know if ud call it a hack). but i havnt tried it yet

I have no problem with it. I shoot in aperature priority always. On my 1Ds the camera stays set on one shot in av, but the transition of shooting with the Rebel is not all that great, at least in that respect.

I've never experienced a problem locking focus then recomposing -- whether it be in Aperture mode or Program (the two I shoot most) -- and a good portion of my shots so far with the camera have been that way.

The only thing that is annoying is that it *sometimes* picks the wrong focus point -- but then I move the camera a millimeter try it again and it picks the correct one. Or just switch it to use the center AF point only.

In summary -- the problem has never affected me.
