...Maybe difficult to do for the loners and those with anti-social personality disorder, and it may be difficult to enforce, but lets give it a try.
I am sure there are other examples, but the primary impetus is this shot
where Robert, ( Bear_Music), I imagine, leans over and says, hey sis,
let me borrow your cellphone, email that picture to me later I need to win a ribbon.
Or perhaps he just finds the phone, takes the shot and emails it to himself with
his sister left unawares...
I also realize that it is essentially a free study, but still, perhaps minimal editing would also
create a nice twist, and the simple requirement that you use a device that has not been listed on your profile. |

LOL...
The former scenario. Saw she had an iPhone (she was visiting, first time in 8 years, serendipity), and said whoa, I gotta take some pics. Went out in the garden then and there, and you see the result. The next day we drove her BOston to catch a bust to Maine for the next leg of her trip, via the Peabody-Essex museum in Salem, where we saw an Ansel Adams exhibit, and I took some pics then as well, some of which would have been decent entries, but this flower, the first thing I shot, stood out.
You can see the unprocessed original, at full size, embedded in the image comments.
So it's a cute challenge idea from my perspective, though (to be practical) I wonder how well it would actually work, with people probably just swapping bodies to systems they already own? Jmritz is using our lensbaby for a while; would that count? It's not a camera, but it radically alters the nature of any camera it's on.

I have bodies at home I simply didn't list on this site out of laziness. Does that count? Also, who's going to verify you don't have them listed.
Oh, I see, another honour system free study'esque suggestion. They'll be enough members who want this so dissenting is pointless.

Dissenting is crucial, not pointless.
Since this is a website to challenge yourself, as much as compete, against others, I felt this might at least put people.out of their comfort zone. Get them away from their favorite camera.

My lonelyness feeds my anti-social personality disorder.
So it will be a no thank you from me. |

i'll continue to not understand why we feel the need to limit our equipment. |

Thats a valid point, but look what Robert did with that cell phone. An amazing shot, by a great eye, but the processing was damned good as well.
You see no value in stripping things to the essence to find inspiration, new technique, different perspectives?
Finesse is as important as equipment bravado, the argument could be made.
But for Chrissake- suggesting a challenge around here is like defending a doctoral thesis! |

An interesting idea. However, I am a closet photographer. I do not actually interact face to face with other photographers. I only interact with them through DPC. Sad but true. I need to get out more. |

Well, maybe not to the essence exactly. For the last several days I have been out shooting with my least camera (Nikon L10) in its BW mode. Just really for the H of it, and H, I got lots of H. I think. Oh, and it is the only camera that fits in my pocket. Actually I am wondering how LITTLE I can live with.
As for borrowing a camera, I am pretty much in Markwiley's closet. Unless someone visits. And lets me out. |
