See here for info on the new Topaz product that removes the need for an image host (such as Photoshop) to use Topaz plug-ins! Use coupon code "FXLab" when purchasing for $50 off. Offer expires 07/6/12.

Based on the intro webinar I watched last week, this looks really cool. The brushes seems so nice with their edge aware technology. I use Aperture's brushes which have that, and work ok, so I really am curious to see if these brushes take that to the next level.

If we act fact we can modify all the rules to ban topaz completely before this hits the streets.

I wish they would have an upgrade to the full suite, from an earlier full suite. They are great about free upgrades. But when they bring out a new product, if you miss the intro, you wind up having to pay full price. To rebut the full suite for one or two new products doesn't make sense. But to pay full price for a couple of new products gets pretty pricey.

Moral of the story, get it during the intro. I'm not knocking the folks at Topaz. Just wishing for a more convenient way to upgrade. (Yes, that also translates to cheaper...)

I just paid for this software and it would not let me register so I have now lost $30 and have asked for my money back, they were not very helpful at all and I am totally annoyed by the lack of interest in helping me and the shabby registration process that did not work.. now I have to wait for them to give me my money back.

RIP OFF!

MAK, you're still good. Shortly after posting the earlier thread, Topaz announced they needed to spend more time working with the just-released photoFXlab (license activation and graphic card compatibility glitches), so the discounted offer I mentioned will be paused and resumed within the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know as soon as it's live again.

Topaz said today, "Please know that we will be releasing an updated version of the program soon (estimated in 7-10 days from 6/8/12). We are reverting back to the former process of using a key for photoFXlabâ„¢ (eliminating the need for the new registration system), and are working to resolve the compatibility issues that have been reported.

"For those that have already purchased, you will be sent the updated version with a new key as soon as it is available. For those that have not purchased, once the improved update is released we will make the intro discount available to you again. And for those who are not experiencing any issues with photoFXlabâ„¢, you are free to continue using it and you will also be sent the upgraded version with a new key."

I helped beta test photoFXlab and participated in its evolution so I know it's going to be a big help to you once these issues are sorted out. And they will be.

PS: If you click on my original link above and then on the product link, you will see a forum has been set up so users can follow the progress of the re-release.

If you buy this new photoFXlab program do you get all the topaz effects from the others? In the video she says "and here you can apply all your topaz effects that you want" but if one has not purchased any other topaz products... then what do we get? sorry, i'm confused. also because i've followed nik stuff more than topaz.

You might want to reconsider your comments a tad.

I do not own that product and got an email this morning telling me how sorry they were about the inconvenience caused and how they would fix it.

I hope this makes you happier.

ETA: I do believe this is addressed Here

I think they had a few complaints, I have read the letter they sent out to everyone and have responded to it.
The only issue I had was with the registration and even after I explained the issue I was having I get an email telling me to register and Im good to go. I replied again and again after that explaining that I had registered yet was still getting the '29 days of your trial left' etc but was then ignored until I asked for a refund then I got a simple 'I will be happy to refund you I will notify you when it has been processed... that was my grief.

Now they have explained the problem I am happy to wait for the update and new registration key. This, however, should of been explained beforehand then myself and other customers would of understood.

Anyway, Hopefully, it is all sorted and I will have a fully legal version of the software that I paid for shortly.

This is an interface that allows you to use all your registered Topaz products in a single, convenient workflow. It can be used as a plug-in (within photoshop) or as a free-standing application. It's pretty nifty, actually, especially at the $29.00 introductory price, and even more especially for those who don't USE photoshop, but you DO have to pay for, and install, whatever Topaz modules you want to activate within the interface.

So to conferm, if I have NO topaz modules installed then the program is essentially worthless... correct? thanks for the help.

Not sure how they could have let you know there was going to be a problem when they didn't know it. I imagine they were inundated with complaints and had no idea what was going on at first.

I use it as a plug-in within Photoshop , i,m not sure what the advantage of this new product is ?

If someone could tell me I should be grateful.

I do like Topaz myself but realise it has a lot of opponents.

some people don't have Photoshop.

IMO the major strength of photoFXpro is to be able to use it as a standalone. Other plug-in developers such as AKVIS, onOne, Alien Skin, etc. have pursued this path in whole or part. Given the grief Adobe users experienced with the license upgrade debacle and the resulting backlash, I think reducing one's dependance on Adobe is a good idea ;-).

As for using photoFXlab as a plug-in, it works exactly the same (as a convenience to access your installed Topaz plug-ins), the main difference being the plug-in takes you back to your image in Photoshop (etc.), while the standalone needs to save it on its own.

If you lack any Topaz plug-ins, the app will allow you to purchase any effect on the spot (or at least it did during beta testing).

Yes, except that you can download any/all modules for a trial of 30 days (that hasn't changed) and decide which ones you want to own, and whether the Fx skeleton is something you want to work with.

Those who purchased photoFXpro early on should have received an email to download the new revised version. This download is much smaller.

Re-released at $50 off until July 31, 2012. Use coupon code "FXLab".

Thanks for confirming, R. I do not want to buy Photo FX since I have no purchased Topaz products. It's basically putting the cart before the horse.

Yeah, except if you DO intend to purchase Topaz products, the introductory price of $29.95 for this software (as opposed to 79.95 later) is too good to pass up. Depends on where you're gonna go.

Rumor has it Topaz intends to eventually extend the functionality of photoFXlab to access other developers' plug-ins as well, we'll have to watch how this shapes up.

Started playing with it yesterday. (I already have most of their products.). I'll probably pay the $29.95 intro. Not sure I think it is worth the full price, yet. To be fair I only spent an hour or so with it. But for close to the full price money, one can get a full editor that can use all their plug-ins.

BTW: if you own a previous bundle, and you missed the intro pricing on a new product that becomes part of the bundle, contact support and they will help you get a good price. Very nice of them, and much appreciated.

I own the whole bundle with the exception of Lens Effects and the Star Effects. They came out after I bought the bundle, and then I won my copy of BW Effects in a photo challenge. I do have Lens Effects and Star Effects trial versions installed, but they aren't something I feel the need to purchase anytime soon.

The rest of the bundle works extremely fast and effectively on my system, and I haven't noticed any glitches in the latest release. The plugin's seem to load considerably faster in the Topaz host relative to Photoshop.

I like the functionality and thought Topaz put into their host, and I see it only getting better in the near future. There are some curious things not in the program as of yet unless I'm overlooking the obvious. I've only had about half a day to use it. You can scale images etc., but I don't see an actual resize and save function which is necessary if you're trying to sell a stand alone alternative to Photoshop etc. It would also be nice to save presets or actions based on the effects you choose from different plugins. Say you want to edit a file and you normally find yourself using the same combo of presets on most photos. You pull something from say BW effects, and then maybe you use Detail to enhance the image a little more etc. Well you have the option as always to save presets in each of those programs, but having an overall Global action or preset stack that can be adjusted within the layer and applied at once, but edited or tweaked individually without going into each plugin would be a nice addition etc.

I think it's great to have an alternative and gain the ability to see all your Topaz plugins in one spot. Extremely handy, and as I said above I see it only getting better in time. For the intro price of around $30 bucks I don't think I can pass it up. Especially since Topaz has always been great in not charging for updates to your programs.

Great suggestions! I can pass them on to the developers if you'd like.
