With all the talk about the new Topaz stand alone software, I downloaded the 30 day trail of Topaz Adjust. This is showing the various ways I processed. Comments and suggestions would be great, or add your own Topaz Workshop images.
Unedited image, resized
Using basic edits from Photoshop Elements 5
Using Topaz Adjust by selecting first grass and adjusting with global adjustments,
then selecting the water with global adjustments
Combining the basic edits and the topaz edit, firt selecting photoshop image and pasteing over topaz image and
then using I think normal at about 50% opacity.

Well, I should know by now that any photo presented has to have DRAMA. I was just trying to illustrate the difference in detail by using Topaz Adjust in the grasses and water of my other image. Now, this one shows what can be done with the sky. This was actually the first image I tried the Topaz Adjust on. I think I selected the sky with a layer mask and worked with it separately from the rest of the image, and I also did some hue and sat adjustments in certain areas to give it more pink. I started by basic photoshop adjustments, such as levels, curves, hue and sat, exposure, etc, then I opened it in Topaz Adjust to get the amazing detail and did some color adjustments. Anyway, I don't know what all I did, but the result was okay. I don't necessarily like the HDR look of the boat and buildings, but I do like the sky.

I like to use denoise and adjust. Combined with a bit of remask and a few layers(and the eraser tool), the results can be pretty nice.

Quite a difference in the tree. Would have missed the mossy detail entirely from the unedited version. |

:)
It's a good start, but your sky is pink. :)
I would suggest approaching this as two images, one adjusted for the ground, one for the sky, then use layers, or Topaz Remask to put the two together. |

I actually wanted the pink, just for effect. I didn't know if I would keep it, but I liked it so I did. Your proposed method is what I did in the other image. I did approach as different images, adjusted the parts separately, then used a layer to combine them. I am not sure I am sold on getting the Topaz adjust, but it does work with photoshop elements 5, which is not listed when you go to the topaz site. So anyway, I really want to bring out details more than anything without going the HDR route. I don't particularly care for HDR images. |

As long as you know it's there and like it- then you're doing great! :) |
