I wish I were all the way up to a 5. I hope to get there.

4.9 now

I think people are confusing "abstract" with "impressionist" or "BLURRED BEYOND BELIEF"

I think there are many ways to create a visual abstraction.

We just need more votes... I'll try to get at it around lunch and post up some comments.

Did a quick thumbnail peek... interesting the different interpretations.

That's why I avoid abstract type challenges ;) Many varied opinions on what is and what is not abstract mean the scores are all over the place from the off - I love abstract art but for the life of me cannot get my head around what DPC voters want for a challenge like this...

Then just do what you like and don't try to please others. I seem to do better when I please myself with it first. I had two potential entries for this challenge, and I did enter the one I thought would have more mass appeal, but I like them both.

I should have entered the one my wife told me to. It was prettier.

That's fine but then I get frustrated lol I don't know why ;)

Steve I am messaging you an image I considered entering, care to give me your feedback?

Lately I have not entered a couple of challenges with images that I specifically shot for given challenges, but I just wasn't happy with the final image - I used to enter them anyway but I am a bit more selective over what I enter these days.

That's where you and I differ. I enter junk photos most of the time just because, why not. Right now, if this continues, I'm in the running for all time bottom 10 lowest scores on DPC. That takes real talent.

We all do. We are pleased with what we have done, then the court of mass opinion tells us it is poor or mediocre. So we are frustrated. I had a pair of low 5's running in voting at the same time as my recent 7+ ribbon.

Also remember that a mid-pack entry on DPC is the stuff that will have your friends and family wowing over what a good great photographer you are.

You're not even close. Your 10th-worst score is a 5... I have over 100 in the 4's, and I'm not even close myself. Check out Charliebaker and Whiterook, to name just two...

I woke this morning to a 4.375 at eight votes, and it rose on every update, to a 4.9333 at fifteen. Vote sixteen was the first drop I saw, to 4.875.

This may be my first sub-5 in almost six years.

Charliebaker owns the title. He has 10 pictures in the lowest 120 scoring entries ever on DPC, (and 11 in the bottom 121), with an average of 2.267 and a range of 2.083 - 2.530, including two tied at 2.401.

senoj has 3 in the bottom 120 (2.344, 2.389, 2,478)

Becky (2.247, 2.402), SamuelDPC (2.404, 2.441), and the great ubaldo (1.936, 2.363) have two each.

Results have not been audited and are subject to revision at any time without prior notice. Results are as of 25-Jun-2012 and may change with the completion of additional challenges. Contest not valid where prohibited by law. Please check your local ordinances (that ought to keep 'em busy...). ;-p

3.1 hahahahaha never been in the 3s before :)

5.1

A big come down from the nice start. But I don't get bothered by low scores, I just get excited by high ones. That's pretty much how I see life in general -- I don't sweat the small stuff. I'm lucky to be that way, it makes life so enjoyable.

Same here. Woke up to a wonderful 3.333. Now up to a brilliant 4.1!

One would think that it should be easier to end up on the lowest rated photos list than the highest rated one, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Indeed, I just lost .5 with only two or three votes. I wasn't sure that was mathematically possible.

+1

Definition of abstract is so abstract that the votes are all abstract.

Well, judging from the scores being posted, it seems that abstracts are getting the amount of love they usually do. This could be a top 10, if the voting trend holds.

went from a 6.4 this morning to a 5.6

Must be the West Coast voters found a turd in their collective punchbowl.

Yeah, ouch. It had slowly crawled above a 5, and just got kicked off the ladder. No soup for you.

I'm in the same boat as you. Thanks for the awesome comment though!

I hope it was a good comment. I've been trying to be painfully honest lately. I've found it's helping my 'inner eye'. Hey, maybe that will be good for the zen challenge eh?
