so all this discussion would be permissible, but once the challenge starts it is hidden?
or just no discussion whatsoever before a challenge?

No, I don't mind the discussion, it's the actual photos. Too many times the third iteration is a copy of the second iteration because people go to the second challenge for inspiration on the third. What worked last time? It feeds into the "been there, done that" feel we often complain about. Even if you aren't trying to copy the previous one, if you've looked at it it seeps into your subconscious and your ideas tend to be similar.

If Foreground Bokeh I disappeared when Foreground Bokeh II was announced we wouldn't have that influence and we might get fresher results. (but then again maybe we wouldn't.)

I think this is an excellent idea. It is tempting to try to reproduce or take inspiration fron a former ribbon winner. Fresh ideas would be a novelty here.

Just remember you said that when you're voting this time around... I have a feeling mine's not going to do well despite being fresh. Haha.

I understand now, and yes, it might stimulate creativity not to be able to go back to the ol' dpc well.

I think the problem i'm going to have is that people are going to look at my shot and assume the bokeh is in the b/g when it's not.

R.

I'm hoping the voters will appreciate my efforts.......I believe I got that.....

Mine's a luckshot, but I'll take it if it does well! LOL!!!

Is it my imagination or was the blue ribbon winner lucky to win this challenge, as it seems the whole photo is almost all in bokeh, to me the spider is not sharp at all, the 8th place should of rated higher IMO, what do you all think?

8th place, spider much sharper.

But the simplicity and design of the blue ribbon winner is far superior to the 8th place image. IMHO

Huge difference in scores between 1st and 3rd, anyone else notice?

I did. I was amazed mine even got top 20 with a score of 6.2. Seems to have been pretty low scoring, for whatever reason.
