I am creating a newsletter with InDesign CS6. When I export as an interactive PDF the email addresses do not work. Links to web pages work fine. Last month I used InDesign CS5.5 and email addresses worked fine. Anyone have a suggestion about how to fix this? |

Sounds like a setting is not set properly. |

That's what I'm thinking, but I have no idea which one... |

As a temporary remedy, maybe you could fix the links afterwards in Acrobat Pro? |

I've never done that! I'll check it out. |

is it a bug? do you need edit the hyperlink to say mailto:? usually the software sees the context that matches an email address and applies the hyperlink, maybe its not working.
unfortunately our indesign expert here in the office is out all week, so i cant ask him.

I've used ID since version 1, but I'm only up to CS 5.5 at the moment and it's not easy to troubleshoot over an internet forum. |

It says mailto and looks exactly like the ones created in CS5.5. |

Didn't figure out the email problem yet, but I have another question. I am creating a newsletter for my camera club that will be posted on our website and emailed to all members as a PDF. It's hard to judge sizes since everything is in pixels instead of inches. However, I just make it look right and check it when I export to make the PDF. What should the original document size be set to? Right now it is 612 X 792.
Some of the images look pixelated on the PDF. Also, I resized our logo (created in Illustrator and saved as a PNG) to the pixel size shown in InDesign. When I placed the file it was way smaller than actual size and so pixelated it could not even be read. (The little training I've had was in InDesign CS3 for print documents.) |

For a PDF newsletter, set the document size to Letter. Do NOT save the logo as PNG! Either drag it directly from Illustrator or export it as an Illustrator EPS and place that. When you export the InDesign document to PDF, use "Smallest File Size," but change the JPEG quality to medium or high at 72dpi (or 150dpi if the recipients are expected to print it). |

Thanks for the tips! The problem with the logo is preserving a transparent background. It's a circle and I don't want it to be in a white square. |

Illustrator files don't have backgrounds unless you create one intentionally or save as a raster format (JPEG), which sort of defeats the purpose of using Illustrator in the first place.

I wish I knew a lot more about Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I didn't have time to use any of them for about 3 years then I upgraded to CS6. The classes I had were for graphic design and emphasized print, but I only had one course on each program and that barely scratches the surface!
