Thank you. I am learning so much from your comments. They have been very helpful. Looking at my Photo after reading the comments makes me want to try to take the picture again and this time do it right. The lighting would be softer and more towards the box of popcorn. And I would try not to show the backdrop. I still like the hand. Popcorn is my daughters favorite!
Thanks again to all who commented on my photo!

Hi. When I commented on your picture I left a positive comment. I read through all the comments that others have left and I learned somethings myself. One comment that I had on a previous challenge that I believe may apply to you is that the file limit for this contest is 150kb. Your file is only 75kb and I'm seeing what may be jpeg compression artifacts on the box and on the pot's handle. If you save your file at a higher quality this may go away and your image may look nicer overall. You'll have to play with it and see how much better it actually gets.

Great, thanks. I never would have thought of that. I will give it a whirl.

I wasn't sure exactly where to place this so here it is....

This is the first time I have attempted to place a comment on all the photographs. I am having a really hard time with the ones that are say 5's and 6's. The really good ones and the really bad ones are not too hard ...but I am really struggling with this.

Any suggestions? I dont want everyone to think I hate their pictures. Most of these dont have a lot of problems technically. They are just boring, or snap shots.....

I really could use some insite here.

Thanks-Anne

I dont know. Those in the middle are the most difficult to comment on. Maybe name one good thing in the picture, and just one thing to improve? Like, "Really like the composition but the lighting needs to stronger/softer/more direct/less direct." I know it's not a lot, but at least the person knows you looked at the picture long enough to say something about it.

I try to treat them all the same, regardless. There's almost always something that can be tweaked in ANY image. Yes, some are easier to comment on than others, but if they're not your 10s, then there must be something you're perceiving as "bad" or "fixable" in them.... If you think they're boring, or a snapshot, think about possible ways that they could have spiced up the pic (without suggesting impossibilities -- like taking a picture of a baseball pitcher from directly overhead or something).

Sigh. I'm trying to comment on all of them as well. I did for one of the previous challenges, but didn't have time in the last one. 24 comments down, many more to go. On the medium shots, (and even the ones that I rate pretty low) I usually try and find something good and something that could be an improvement (in my opinion, anyway). Something that was suggested in earlier discussions that I think would be helpful is to see the shutterspeed and aperture while voting. Just a thought.

This is probably why I have so few comments, I suspect my photo must be uninspiring to most of the voters.

That is why it has become my mission to comment on everything, somehow, even if I am a novice. I am hoping that I will learn things from the others here and improve with each challenge.

One of the very best ways to learn something is to try and teach it to others.

Three of my favorite views on the subject:

Being Absolutely Positive: Being mistaken at the top of one's voice.

Oratory: The art of making deep rumblings from the chest appear to be important ideas from the brain. (adapted from Ambrose Bierce)

"I may be wrong, but I'm never uncertain."

D_Blues: I agree that the comment process comes dangerously close to imposition, but really is far more important than the score. I am a computer geek from way back, so I have the doubious honor of suggesting "canned" responses. I tried the create my own canned responses, but it didn't make the process any faster. Sorry this comment doesn't carry any deep, helpful suggestions, just empathy and encouragement to keep up the hard work. It's worth it to the rest of us. Thank you.

Swashbuckler- thanks for your support....I did it! Every submission in this contest has at least some comment from one Dangerous_blues! It is actually a feeling of accomplishment to be able to say that.

Hopefully, I was able to be constructive in most cases.

Should I just appologize now to anyone I may have offended??

You can call me Swash. You might want to think about our 12 year old competitor....Brutal honesty isn't the best combination.
If you were sincere, NEVER appologize!!!
