Hey, today I was out shooting, and I was browsing my pics to delete ones that were obviously no good, and a lot of the pictures I had taken were not on the card. How do I go about using the 5 year warranty? Do I take it to the place of purchase? or do I have to mail it to sandisk? UGH this sucks

Could it be they are there put in a new folder?
I don't know how you view your photos. I use Breeze-Browser and with each 100 shots it makes a new folder.

The 10D camera stores each 100 images in a new folder; I would expect the 300D to do the same. Try browsing the card in Explorer and see if the files are elsewhere on it.

The files arent there. only one folder on the disk. They just went bye bye. I had viewed the pic, and this pic was Ribbon Worthy, and POOF gone. I was so pissed... I better not have to send the damn card away. *grumbles*

Could it be you accidentally erased these; or didn't actually take them? No offense, but the odds of user error are much higher than the odds of a card having errors. Especially someone who is new with their camera.
You should be able to use regular disk utilities on the card, since it behaves just like a drive if you are using a reader. Just run scandisk on the card, or use Norton utilities to check it.

Ok, so the files are still there, but they need to be recovered. Does windows have any freeware that does this? I really dont want to spend 30 dollars to recover a few pictures.

Sandisk has a file recovery software called RescuePro bundled with it's Extreme line of CF cards. It is excellent, recovers photos on your cards even if you have formatted them in your camera. |

Give this a try, they have a demo version you can try. |

Search the web using google for:
"freeware file recovery"
that produces some hits; I can't attest to which ones work. I have used Norton Utilities (not free) once in the past when I erased a card only to find that the files had not been transferred properly to the computer. |

I looked out of curiousity: the demo version only shows you whether or not the files can be recovered, it does not do the recovery. |

This one looks interesting if you have a PC.

I have not tried it, so caveat emptor. If the files are really important to you, you may want to go with commercialware rather than freeware. Freeware is often equally good, but as with any new software you are taking a risk. |

The issue of file recovery aside I'd just like to say how pleased I am with the SanDisk warranty. I had a problem with one and gave them a call. I got a very courteous rep and I explained to him my issues and that I already ran through the troubleshooting steps on the website. He didn't make me go through them again, only asked me to read him the serial number on the side of the card. He then asked me to send them the card and they would send me a new one. I mailed the card in and received a new one within three days. IIRC, the package the new card came in was dated the same day as I called. Never have I had such a trouble free warranty experience. |

Sounds good but they could just have sent you the card without making you wait! I had a problem with an Oribtrek elliptical trainer where the base cracked after 2 years . After the seller dismissed me and sent me to the mfr, they basically asked me a few questions, and told me they were shipping me a brand new one. I asked how I should send this one back (it's heavy), and they said just keep it for spare parts. I was very impressed. |

Unless I'm misunderstanding they DIDN'T make him wait - they mailed the new card out ON THE DAY he called them without first waiting for the old one to be received by them.
That's great service in my book.

In the last two years I have taken over 20,000 pics.
In that time I lost one batch of pics. Unfortunately it was during a trip to Florida, at the Monkey Jungle :(
I never did figure out if I could have recovered them, a gave up after researching a bit.
The one thing I did learn was never ever take your memory card out before it is done writing. That is what I must have done while rushing to get a shot. I had not erased the card because there was one shot left on it. I lost about 70 shots that day.
