		| | After 5 years of D80 (still works beautifully), 2 weeks of deliberations, and a moment of impulse I finally ordered the D7000 :)
excited to use it on our upcoming trip to Puerto Rico!

I've done the same thing last year. From D80 to D7000 - a HUGE improvement, you will love it! :)

		| | I made the same jump last fall. My D80 still works like new also. The D7000 is great. I am considering having my D80 converted to an IR camera. |

		| | When do you use your D80? I am not planning to sell it, keep it as a backup, but was wondering when will I ever use it?
Do you still carry it in your camera bag?

I have had the same idea. But I'd prefer to buy an old one (like a D70) and convert it.

My D80 has sat on a shelf since I got the D7000 and I don't anticipate needing it as a backup, so for me, buying a third body to convert does not make economic sense. But to each his own way. One day I may look back and wish I had kept the D80 as a backup.

Out of curiosity, why would you prefer a D70 for conversion?

		| | Congratulations! I made the same jump almost 1.5 years ago. Big improvement, especially for high ISO performance. |

		| | Got the camera in mail yesterday evening. After all the preliminary checks I tried few shots at night and this morning.
 FIRST THOUGHTS:
Have to shoot and understand the camera better before really concluding anything. But so far, I have mixed feelings.

 LIKE:
 - 6 fps, not just like, love it!
 - controls are all easily accessible (second dial is great)
 - info panel on the back is excellent addition, makes it easy with the camera on tripod
 - 39 point focus is fast and handy shooting birds
 - Time-lapse option
 - White Balance seems more precise indoor (needs more testing)

 DON'T LIKE:
 - extra weight over D80
 - LV is fairly useless, and does not work with 3rd party lenses (it seems it requires updating lens firmware). Even with Nikon lenses its pretty slow
 - Video, can't see myself using it. But I didn't buy a video camera

NOT SURE ABOUT - needs more testing:
 - ISO performance, i know its supposed to be better than my D80, but have to try more controlled shots to get a feel of this
 - I thought my D80 was slow at acquiring focus, but I was just underestimating it. D7000 does not seem much faster (I might be wrong)

 EXAMPLE:
 this morning (edited)

more 100% comparison (D80 vs D7000) over the weekend if I get a chance to shoot.
