Just watched an interesting documentary called "Exit through the Gift Shop". It's both the story of the rise of street art as a genre of art and of the rise of a street artist: Thierry Guetta. Wondering if anyone here has seen it-- Link to movie (stream)

I saw it. My feeling (and others feel similarly), is that the whole Mr Brainwash is a big act. A way for Banksy to pull an elaborate prank on the LA art scene.

Haha of course it's a prank, it's banksy through and through poking fun at the art world and monetizeration of it.
It's a good giggle though and proper British humour

Great documentary. Love Banksy, and I'd say that it's about his reaction to the commodification of art as a whole. Lots of conspiracies abound about it, hinting that Thierry is Banksy and all sorts of other things. I think Banksy is Banksy in the docu and it's a jab at the art world, the joke being on everybody who purchases art to own it. I don't think that mentality is understandable to Banksy much. |

One of my favorites of his :)
ETA: on the topic of street art- JR is an extremely talented photographer/artist who uses street art/graffiti techniques in displaying his work. He generally pastes massive prints of his images on walls, roofs, trains, etc. My favorite project of his is the "Face2Face" project where he took photos of Israelis and Palestinians doing the same jobs and glued the prints on the opposite side of the wall (Israeli pictures pasted on Palestinian side and vise versa). Seemed somewhat relevant--
