See this article. The deputy is charge with creating and distributing child pornography. The damning evidence came from EXIF data on photos, which identified the time and place the photos were taken. The photos were taken with a smart phone camera, and had the GPS coordinates embedded. They led police directly to the location.
I have to commend the authorities for doing the sleuthing. It's great to see technology put a criminal behind bars.

Bump for the evening... I thought this would surely generate some interest.

Thanks for posting this article. Good for forensic investigations.

Disgust might be a better term... I'm not sure that is even a strong enough term. If one of those kids were mine, I'd be praying he made bail... And waiting for his release.

Kirbic, It is, indeed, great to see technology used to put criminals behind bars.
And ambaker, like you, disgust is the mildest word I can find in my vocabulary
to describe this captured individual unworthy of the title of "man".

Once, a long time ago, I might have thought mild 'big brother' thoughts, no more.

EXIF now is like fingerprints, a useful and verifiable clue to identify those who
misuse photography for their own strange purposes.

The more resources we have to detect crimes of this nature, the better.

I'm glad you posted this, even though it was awful to read.
