I'm trying to figure this out. Is this the phone or the pad or something I'm not thinking of?
I answered my question. It's the phone.

I think they have 2-5 more years of growth before they level off, which is why I bought some stock a month ago (I'm already up 17%).
Their products are popular, and they have set up a system where, once you get in, you don't want to leave. They are constantly releasing upgrades to their products which sell like hotcakes, even if the upgrades are minor (they have a 6 month rotating schedule for iPhone an iPad releases). I believe they have a couple new products coming down the line (internet enabled TV's, and possibly a smaller version of the iPad).
They have yet to really penetrate the 2nd largest market in the world: China. If I recall correctly, there are 1 Billion cell phones in China, but only 10% of those are smart phones. Even if the iPhone is more expensive than it's competitors there, there is still plenty of room for growth. The iPad has yet to hit the market as well.
Companies and agencies which traditionally relied on BlackBerry devices (US Government & the ATF) have stated they are switching to iPhones.
The iPad3, which is expected to be announced next week, will have some major upgrades. They might also announce an upgraded Apple TV.
I'm sure there will be some corrections in the next little while, but my long term outlook on Apple is good.
Edit: To fix the China cell phone numbers.

Sorry Scarbrd, looks like I may have screwed up the stock for everyone with my skillz of buying at the peak.
"Apple joins only a handful of companies ΓΆ€“ Microsoft , Exxon Mobil Corp, Cisco, Intel and General Electric ΓΆ€“ that have crossed the $500-billion mark. None of those other stocks was able to sustain that value."

Come on Slippy, surely you should be advising us to invest our money in the only place worthwhile;
Gold. Gold. Gold.
And classic sports cars. |

Gold has dipped recently, so it's probably a good time to buy. (The market is angry this morning!)
Go ahead and buy your car already! :-D

I think they've been reading my posts and wrote an article about it. I should sue for intellectual property infringement! |

AAPL moving up like a Boss today. Will it pass $600 soon? We shall see. Maybe I'll buy some more.

I'm not sure what to do with my remaining shares, but holding for now. Maybe sell enough to cover my cost and hold on to the remainder as 'free shares'.

Apple beat the street again. Most people thought they were going to disappoint this time. Apple did say that the next quarter may not be as good.
AAPL is up $30+ in after hours trading.

Why is it still called an earnings "surprise" when Apple has done this 20 times out of the last 21 quarters? I bought more yesterday because the only surprise is that people still listen to these idiots no matter how many times they're proven wrong. |

I don't think it'll open that high. More likely in the $580-590 range, but we'll see. The bigger deal is that it silences negative rumors from people who really didn't have a clue. We'll get a nice pop in the morning, the usual round of target upgrades, and then resume the general trend upward. Within the next 6 months, Apple will probably release slim MacBooks, revamped iMacs and MacPros, the iPhone 5, a China Telecom deal (bigger than Verizon, AT&T and Sprint combined), a possible TV product and likely others we don't know about. It would be foolish to sell into that. |

Apple missed earnings this week. Is it good time to buy considering the upcoming product launches (iPhone5, and rumoured mini ipad and apple tv)? |

I've been thinking about it. But not sure how the public is going to view the new rumored mini ipad as well as when the new iphone will launch. |

I've been watching AAPL ever since this conversation and I have to say it's been a fascinating roller coaster.

Yes it has. I made my 15% and got out a couple months ago.
The question is, is it a buy at this point in time? I'm on the fence. |

I've been mulling that over as well. I guess I was negative before and have to ask what has really changed that would make me positive? The only thing in my book is we know that at some point people thought the stock was worth 700. There seems to be more turnover in leadership and fumbling with products than I think we have come to expect with AAPL and they "missed" on their last earnings (meaning they missed what the consensus was not what they, themselves, had predicted).
It takes guts to catch a falling knife. |

There's a thin line between bravery and stupidity :)
I agree that Apple doesn't look very enticing at this point in time.
At any rate, my money is tied up in other stocks, so I won't be investing in AAPL any time soon. |

I bought a bunch, sold some for profit, currently holding some still in profit zone. I've been watching it fall wondering when/if to buy some more. ????
