Really, really nice. Did you handhold?
04/18/2004 09:36:15 PM · #3
sfalice,

Yes and no.

Of the 100 or so shots taken, used both a Nikkor 17-35 and the Sigma 50-500. Some of the Sigma's shot were mounted on a tri, but I do not remember if this one was.

Thank you.

Nice shot, what is the focal length for this shot? @ max 500?
04/19/2004 09:46:14 AM · #7
rj324,

Not sure exactly on the fl. Probably not at 500 though. Likely nearer the 350-400 range.....and with crop factor, would be pushing it to around a 500-600 shot. On this shot I was probably 10-12' away. No cropping has been done to this photo.

Appreciate the comment.

was that after Tax and shipping?

Im trying to save my pennies (nickles, dimes and quaters also) for this lens.

Also trying to sell off some un-needed items as well to save up for a Bigma.

I take it the $1050 were not USD? I bought a used one in mint condition a while back for $500 US. It is a great lens though.

No, it was US dollars.

I may not be exactly to the penny, but I'm fairly certain that it was listed at $1049.95 at the local camera store. No shipping as I picked it up personally, but there was tax. Michigan has 6%. It is a rather popular lense this time of year, as the "birders" like it.

www.cameramartinc.com is the local store. They are competive with the big NY houses. If I have quoted wrongly, I appologize. I will double check.

I was correct......$1049.95 US at Camera Mart

It really is a great lens, I guess I just got a real bargain on mine. Hopefully you will be getting lots of great pictures with it this spring. Down here in TX the birds have really been active for the past couple of months and I am really eyeing the heck out of that EF 600mm f/4L IS.

ok thanks, when I make big purchases like this (over $250 is my net order limit) I prefer to go to a local camera shop wrather than buying over the net. Call me old fashion, but I just feel better spending money like that when I can actually look someone in the eye

Also it gives you the opportunity to verify the working condition on YOUR camera. In my case, it worked flawlessly on the D70, but with manual focus only on the 6006's.

Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the group on Saturday.

If you have the time, here is a whole set of rodeo 'play day' taken with the Sigma 50-500 handheld. I think I'm gonna like this lens!

Danny,

I've been to the Rodeo at the FW Stockyards (I believe), a few years back. Looks like the potential for this lense is quite good. At least in your capable hands. Those were mostly "action" shots on your slide show and not a blurred one in the bunch. Nice.

Very, very nice slide show. The lens surely is a super one as you have proved. Unfortunately for me, I must use mine on a tripod or support. the 6+ lbs is just too much for me to handhold. But still, I've gotten some sharp bird photos with it, even by resting it on a railing (or whatever is handy at the time).

The best place to purchase Sigma lenses is Delta International.com. A Sigma 50-500 for a Canon = $804 before taxes and shipping of course.

On a scale of 1-10, Reseller Ratings has it listed as a 10 for the last 6 months (24 reviewers) and a 9.96 total score (62 reviewers). I've had nothing but good things when dealing with them for sales and returns. A top notch operation.
