Here are a few examples of images from the new Nikon D800. Obviously, it is impossible to show the power of the resolution of this camera using 800x600 DPI JPEG files. But, it is interesting to see nonetheless. Michael

Here is an extreme crop of the propeller image to demonstrate the quality of the 76 MB raw file. In fact, I shot JPEGs at the same time, and used the companion 16 MB JPEG for the creation of these example images.

if you look at closely, you can make up the serial number of the engine block... well, almost. That's an awesome detail there.

I bet if you cropped the helicopter's pilot from the other photo, you probably could be able to read the name tag on him... Aha, that's the reason right?

Here you go! You can not read the watch from this JPEG, but the raw image is awesome to see, it is just too big to share.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but while i find many of the features of the D800 impressive I just can't get over how UGLY the body is, it's just goofy looking....ande while I havent held one it does not look comfortable to grip.

Is that a kid sitting on the middle seat?

You are right, it does sound stupid.

It fits my hands well and that is without the MB-D12 grip. Adding the grip enhances the ergonomics greatly, especially with longer lenses that I normally use. As far as aesthetics go, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... It works fine for me, but if it is not pretty enough for you, then it is best to stick with Canon. Maybe, for some, it takes time to get use to the aesthetics of the D800. I admit that there are a few issues with its design, such as it using both a SD and a CF card. I wish they would have been more decisive and just picked one of the two standards. However, it never crossed my mind as to whether it was pretty or ugly. Maybe I am just too technical to see past the specification and see the appearance issue that you see.
