So, I took some senior portraits of my brother and while I am happy with some of the photos, overall I realize that I still need A LOT of work and I definitely don't think I am at the level of an actual professional photographer. I feel like I am definitely missing some polish especially when viewing the pictures as a whole.

Would you mind looking at these photos and giving me some thoughts and critiques? Feel free to be as honest as you please.
I think especially editing right now is a problem for me.

Two things to keep in mind are:
-My brother HATES having his picture taken and appears to be incapable of smiling naturally in front of a camera, thus some of the more silly pictures to distract him.
-I took all of these pictures three days after breaking my leg, so we were constrained to just one small area since I was hopping around on one foot. Certain angles were also not possible because of this constraint.

It is funny that his best expressions are in the most silly poses. Superman #3 and cheesehead from below are very nice shots, but he is a tough model with that "I'm uncomfortable, take the darned picture" smile. I don't know why you are unhappy with the editing, they are straighforward and clean, pretty much what you want in senior shots. The skin tone on some is a touch off, but it is tough keeping that right when one shot is against white and the next is against brick or grass. Grey cards are your friend,

I love the cheese hat photos , So much more relaxed . All of the photos are great, And for having a broken leg you got some pretty nice angles.

i like the editing alot, but in that first shot, is there a garbage bag on the ground?

Haha yeah, I couldn't figure out a way to clone it out without making the cloning obvious. So I just made it as subtle as possible.
I can probably try to work on it some more though if its too distracting

I think they look great but yes - that garbage bag has to go!! Content aware might turn out to be your friend here.

Agreed, this shouldn't be too hard to clone out methinks.

1-Clone the bag, next time let him hang both legs down and just lean him little forward with both his hand, more comfortable sitting instead of posing like this, looks uncomfortable.

2-Bring him to the right side of the frame, have him lean against to wall little more comfortable, this one looks like he will slip down any second, and have him cross the arms instead of hanging... current one looks little more feminine

3/4/5-Seems like very uncomfortable sitting position. For this one I probably have him crisscross the legs, and have him lean forward a little... or have him go down without sitting, and still leaning to the wall.

6/7/8/9-Idea is good, details are important... Look at the pants, and shirt, look at the pockets.

10-One of the best one :)

11-12-Good pose and composition :)

13-I like the face impression, but again, feminine style sitting... crisscross the legs :)

14-Instead of putting his hand like that, you should lean him on his arm, top of hi knee, more muscular sitting for this kind... face impression... well, I prefer the previous one ;)

15-I would definitely have him lean his head to the other way... and turned the other way as well.

I do senior portrait photography as my full-time job, I had two studios, and many years of experiences taking portraiture photos (just to add this resume, it's up to you to value my comments or not after that)

You are being much too hypercritical. Except for the garbage bag and such, I think you did a great job in both posing and pp;ing.

Thanks FocusPoint!!!
This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for! Concrete things that I can improve on the next time I shoot.
I will definitely have to do some more research on poses! For this one, I just told him to sit however he felt comfortable, but obviously I should have more knowledge on what works and what doesn't

I agree with others, in that the garbage bag would have been a quick thing to remove before taking the shot (I've missed stuff like that several times myself, while shooting), that this is a really nice set of captures, overall good composition as well. I have always thought that photos of people that are either candid or don't seem seriously "posed" are better, than the ones that look like the person was "posed" to look like they're having their portrait taken. I like a more natural or whimsical photo, which is why your silly ones (as you called them) are my favorites.

Some other thoughts...

1) 10 bonus points for him being a PACKERS fan!
2) In the shot with the hoodie, he looks like a young John Elway (could be his son, he looks so much like him)
3) You have no reason to trust me, since I'm new and you don't know me, but I have an extensive background (as I'm sure many here would) with cloning things like that bag in the first image. If you gave me access to the full size, I could clone that bag out...if you like.
