Anyone know if this is true?

check out dpreview.com for the detailed specs on each camera. you can do a side-by-side comparison.
I think a CF card is a CF card is a CF card. Some are ultra - making them faster, but I think all the models use the same. Unless you are talking about a different type of card.

outofreachx,

I do not know the difference between a cfI and cfII. I do know that the cf card used by the D70 is slightly longer that 1.5" (1 and 5/8ths) and slightly shorter that 1.5" (1 and 7/16ths) heigh. So if your cf cards are approximately 1 and 5/8ths x 1 and 7/16ths, then I would keep them and use them with your new D70.

If ya scroll you'll read about the CF speed with the D70

P.S. good luck with your move.

CF type II is basically double the thickness of CF type I. Both the D70 and 300D can, I believe, take either type I or type II.

Edit: confirmed they both do take Type I and II.

BTW, the weight of the D70 body, with battery, is 679g, the 300D body is 649g, or 4.4% less. No way this difference would be perceptible.

Identical cards, although the manufacturer list of "approved" cards might vary a little.

In theory all CF cards are equal, but some cheap ones don't fully implement the standards - so for example anyone with a Minolta has to be a little careful. As far as I'm aware, Canon and Nikon can handle anything you through at them.

Certainly the D70 is happy with my Sandisk and Integral cards (the Minolta wouldn't talk to the Integral one) - and lists Lexar in the manual. In fact I believe I'm right in saying that it will use the "WA" feature on Lexar 40x cards (to write even faster) too.
