Cleaning Canon lenses - DPChallenge Forums

What do you use to clean your Canon lenses? I'm not talking about cleaning the CCD sensor, but the front and rear glass elements of the lens. I've had my 10D and lenses for several months now, and because I treat them very, very carefully I've never had to clean them. Test photos show the CCD only has 1 noticeable dust speck, and when I decide to clean that I'll use the Eclipse & Pec-Pad technique. But, would it be safe to clean the coated optics of a Canon lens with Eclipse and Pec-Pads, or should I use something else? Does Canon recommend anything special?

i just use a lens pen...can be found at any camera shop for about $6 to $8 and they work well

A lens pen? Is it something like this product? Notice that this product uses some type of dry cleaning compound. lenspen.com

Thanks James, I'll have to check that out. Although, it seems kind of strange to me that they use a powder to clean a coated lens. It's like, "Use dust to clean my lens? Riiiiight." :)

I brush it first and then I use a lenspen. I also use lens cleaning tissue.

Does anybody use a liquid lens cleaner? What about Eclipse--is it safe to use on coated lenses?

I really like Scotch Brite dust free cloths. They work better than lens tissue because they are soft and leave virtually no lens solution residue behind and are washable/reusable. That is one thing that has always confused me ... why are lens tissues so rough?

Currently I am using a cloth which I like, occasionally with a squirt of lens cleaning liquid. Got given a little canon lens cleaning kit when I got my camera and haven't used it up yet.

I must admit, that lens pen looks pretty neat.
