Submitting proof with the source RAW:
I got a 5D MKIII on Friday and of course neither Adobe or Apple support the RAW files yet.
I'd like to shoot some RAW; I can import to the Canon software, create a DNG and edit that file. If I need to validate, is the DNG file acceptable - I could submit the CR2 file, but who'd be able to read it?
I know I could shoot RAW plus JPEG and submit the JPEG (I think), but say I have a FS candidate for which I only have a CR2 file??

Submit the CR2 for proof-of-shooting (time/date) and the DNG so they can see the unaltered original if they can't read the RAW. That should work.

I wish they would accept DNG files as I would like to save images into lightroom in that format and then as backups also and not keep the original raw.

The problem with DNG versus sidecar files is this: if you go in and touch up or adjust the image in any way, your automatic backup now must backup the entire file. In LR with RAW, if you do a touchup, the only file that needs to be backed up is the itty bitty sidecar file.
As far as submitting DNG, no, we don't accept them for any camera where they are not the native (or one of the choices for native) capture.

This seems weird to me. You'd think Adobe would be in bed with the major camera makers so they could have the specs ahead of time and have the ACR ready when the camera was released. |

It's not unusual. New cameras are released all the time, and software developers can't realistically issue an update every other day. I had to wait several weeks for the RAW files from my 7D to be supported by Adobe and Apple. |

The only guarantee is that Adobe will bend you over to buy the latest product... not like they will push a simple camera profile to older versions :-0) |

Now why should they do that? They've already spent your money on bonuses, conferences, and the like. Want continued support? Continue to pony up. And no more of this skipping a rev or two nonsense. Ferraris do not run on air alone... |

Thanks, but I only have CS4 - this didn't work for me. |

That does take care of your original question, though. |

Ah yes - in that it would be viewable by you. So the editing steps would say something like. Imported into DPP, convert to DNG...
And then supply the CR2 file. |
