I have nothing against Keith or Hans. I'm sure you two have some excellent photos (if not in this challenge in many to come).

Personally, I hope the SC decides to rigidly enforce the time/date stamp ruling. If the EXIF has the wrong date it isn't like you're taking food out of some kid's mouth. You're simply DQ'ing someone from a photography challenge. Make it a hard and fast rule; let people post "I got DQ'd" stuff everytime we have a challenge and just go on. I'm sympathetic in that I think it sucks that you forgot to check the settings on the camera. I often go out to shoot and realize after 12 or 15 frames that I need to check something or other (like resolution, auto white balance, etc). Checking your camera is just something you do from time-to-time (in the US most of us had to change the time on our cameras just a week ago).

It's not like these folks did any major injustice (at least most make honest mistakes) but if the rules are just guidelines that are flexible depending on how many people I can get to post in a thread and put pressure on the SC then I think the management becomes inconsistent. This has been an issue and its not like we're competing for money or even acclaim that can be put into a professional resume. These are just pixels. No one's saying that Keith's picture sucked (sounds like it did better than most of mine do). I just think this should be chalked up to a "awww, crap" moment; make the date change in the camera and go out and win the next challenge.

I agree with what you are saying my first post was posted as a warning to others not to gain favour or to change the councils minds

it just that saying "awww, crap" to your monitor in a room on your own is not the same as letting everyone know you had a crap moment :)

anyway I'll be picking up my new camera on sunday... setting the date... then I hope I have time get a photo for the Serendipity challenge

Keith
