i dont think so.

They should be able to with the right cable... I had my old flee bat crap and cybers trigger a camera. Get a cable from flashzebra.com - it basically forces the camera into a ready to fire mode then your radio completes the fire now part. Cable was cheap from memory - $20 maybe (I forget).

Edit: This is the one for a 7D.

I bought my "Cowboy" triggers from China directly via Ebay. They have performed very well for me indoors for over a year now. I use softbox umbrellas with my off camera flashes and made some simple brackets to hold the flash horizontally in the center of the umbrella. Here is a tutorial on my DIY Horizontal Flash Bracket.

Thanks for all the info! This has been very helpful.

I'm currently running a 430 and a 580 as slaves and the onboard flash on the 7D as a master. It adds light to the scene, however, even when I am selecting the slave only option in the menu. I was curious about the radio triggers for that reason

and

very often I want to have my flashes behind my camera (small space). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The radio trigger triggering the camera would be an awesome option. I find the line of site option for the infrared trigger to be pretty much useless unless I'm taking a self portrait.

I avoid that whenever possible. :)

Nice tutorial! I will have to make a few of these, it has always bugged me that the flash doesn't line up with the center of the umbrella.

The cowboy triggers are cheap poorly made junk, with a terrible problem of the connections to the flimsy plastic case tearing lose due to cheap solder points. That said they are an amazing value and if you baby them, they work (within their limitations) flawlessly. They most often fail because people mount their big flashes on lightstands and expect the poor flimsy cowboy to support the flash as you bounce the stand around to get the light you want, or mash buttons to dial the flash output up and down.

I cobbled together a simple support to allow my flash to sit laterally in the stand with the trigger sticking out behind with no weight on it. The support consists of 5 X 5 brass T plate some bulb strip window insulation and a bit of Velcro. The T plate has the correct width so my lightstand bracket grabs it securely, and the two sides of the bracket are bent up to hold the flash. The insulation keeps the plastic body of the flash from getting scratched and keeps it from sliding when I'm strapping it into place. With these brackets I feel perfectly comfortable grabbing lightstands one handed and moving them around during a shoot, without worrying about the forces stressing the flash shoe.

In keeping with the cheap solution to expensive problems, I bought the Vivitar remote trigger for under $40 and was amazed with how robust this cheap little unit is. I have dropped the reciver unit on concrete, and the sender unit a few times to boot (a fate that would have killed the Cowboys) and it is still working like a champ.

I have four Cactus V5̢۪s. No TTL, but they are really solid. I haven̢۪t had a miss-fire yet, even from 300 feet away. The older Cactus V4̢۪s are junk.

if you are looking for a cheaper than PW but still good, look at Cactus V5

Edit: Marty just mentioned the same

i also dont have eTTL either, i control the output manually.

OJECOCO h550 wireless high speed sync flash trigger might be your need. It got HSS, trigger off-camera flash, studio flash. almost as good as PW's, but much cheaper. around $35 (contact: sales@ojecoco.com).

Awesome!!

btw -- here's the update:

I bought the Yongnuos

They work very well. What's awesome is that I can use it to trigger the camera as a remote shutter release. Since it's radio, I don't have to have a direct line of sight to the camera.

I actually was able to trigger the camera when it was outside and I was inside 3 rooms away. Quite cool!

It works well triggering the flash. There's one big downside, however. The on/off switch ends up under the flash itself -- so you have to take the flash off to turn off the devices. It's easy to forget, and I'm going through tons of batteries. Time for rechargeables.

However, for the price and for the fact that it can run the camera -- I'm definitely not complaining too loudly. :D

thats a cool feature, i dont think my Cowboy studios work that way.

I bought from Cowboy studios twice, since they are in my local area and so I figured I would get the items quickly. I did the first time, but on both occasions my order was filled incorrectly (one time the mistake resulted in a upgraded product, but that was just dumb luck). I also suspect them of some anti-competitive tactics in the Amazon marketplace that I don't like.

I ordered a pocket wizard from a company in Sweden once......when I got it, it had nothing to do with cameras.....

I was searching for some Yongnou RF-602's from a particular vendor that stocks them in the US. I had ordered from him before and been pleased. A search on Amazon for "Yongnou" and "RF-602" did not turn up the item from this vendor. I did find it from Cowboy studios as the first hit, however. I did eventually find it by going to his Amazon storefront and manually browsing until I found it. The problem was it was identified only as a "wireless trigger". I messaged the vendor to let him know this, because it was certainly affecting his sales. He told me that the way the Amazon marketplace works, any vendor can go in and change the description of an item. Someone else had gone in and changed the item description to read generically, and then posted their identical item separately so that it would be what a customer would find when searching for an RF-602.

i recommend (based on my reading)the pocket wizard manual \"plus3\" transievers instead of tt1/5 for a few reasons. ( you might have to wait a little to get your hands on these)

1. you can do manual very well with these

2. theyre cheaper and thinner and more robust than the \"TT1 and 5\"

3. they are all trancievers - no problem with reciever/ sender blah blahs. Also (with a pretrigger cable i believe), capable of remote camera triggering.

4. Same pocketwizard quality at a lower price than the tt1/5 combo.

I use the tt1/tt5 and am very likely to switch over or purchase these in addition when the cash flow allows.

NVM just read your update... i need to learn how to use forums.

url for their manual on this stuff

I have the radio poppers but will likely upgrade to pw's if I start getting a lot of paying work but I may look into what wendy bought just for the remote camera shutter release.
