I don't know anything about that site ... they appear to be in Thailand.
I have sent a photo to be made into a puzzle at Joslin Puzzle company and everything was fine. They are a family-run business (their 16 year old did the web site); if they don't have what you want, they have a pretty comprhensive page of links to other puzzle sites. I don't think they stock your photo for others to buy if that's what you want, although I think I suggested once that they could link to DPC Prints so people could order from those galleries. |

Inga I looked their site over and tried to do some snooping, but without much luck. It looks ligit-but that sure doesn't mean much.
I guess if your going to submit to them I'd recommend you only send a few photos and see how it goes.
Good luck~ |

Joslin is a great company & is where I get my blanks. They do print custom puzzles, but do not do what this company has set up with stock photos. Linking into the DPC galleries would be great, but probably a bit more than a family run business wants to get into....although I could be wrong. Would be nice to see.

Hi folks, I though I would introduce myself as the owner of www.jigsaw2order.com and respond to some of your comments.
Fist of all, thanks for your interest in our website - it is much appreciated. The site has been live now for around 5 months and as stated, we are based in Thailand and produce our puzzles here in partnership with a puzzle factory which has been manufacturing here for many years. Our aim is to offer high quality custom made jigsaw puzzles based on either your own photos, or a selected image from our gallery.
Originally my concept was to offer something a little different from the standard puzzles you see in the shops. I thought that offering amature photographers a chance to participate and earn a commission if their image was chosen would be a good way to promote the site and offer something new to my customers. As it turns out, 99% of all orders are for custom made puzzles with customers supplying their own images. I must say I have been surprised - I did think that more people would buy puzzles based on the stock images. Anyway, needless to say I have not invested much time and effort to develop this side of the business although in the future, I would like to improve the selection of images in the gallery. Unfortunately this will have to wait until I have more time.
I do like the idea of linking www.jigsaw2order.com with DPC Print gallery where visitors to DPC can order a puzzles based on a selected DPC image. This would be a nice feature. Any ideas who I should talk to about this?
Lastly, if you are interested to submit your photos to our gallery, I cant promise you will make your fortune, but I can promise more exposure for your work. I cant promise either that I will choose your images for inclusion, but if you have something that would make a great puzzle, then e-mail me a preview and I will take a look.
Sorry for the long reply, I hope I did not bore you all.
Happy snapping,
Collin Southwell

Thanks Collin, your post seems to be pretty straight forward. A question- in general, what type of photos are most likely to selected for inclusion in your stock gallery? |

If you want to talk to someone about the DPCPrints idea, it would be best to talk to the admins using this page: //www.dpchallenge.com/help_contact.php
What kind of legal stuff happens when we submit photos to your stock gallery? Do we retain copyright and things on the original photo?
Coolhar: From the website:
What type of Images are we looking for?
Not all images make good Jigsaw Puzzles. What we are looking for are images which are composed well with lots of detail and incorporate interesting subjects. No one wants to make a puzzle with vast areas of blue sky or dark areas. Typically, a good puzzle image with have a point of interest in both the foreground and background and must be technically sound with good focus, exposure and colour.
Subject wise, we are open to any subject or view which would make a good Jigsaw Puzzle. Some examples are: Picturesque landscapes, street scenes, famous landmarks and architecture, interesting people, colourful objects such as cars, trains, planes, flowers, or buildings; set-piece pictures, nature shots of animals or birds. You get the idea!

Legally, when images are accepted into the www.jigsaw2order.com gallery, the photographer retains all rights to their images. All we ask is for the right to reproduce the image when a customer selects it as the basis of a Jigsaw Puzzle. In return, we pay a small royalty to the photographer. We have a Contributor's agreement which covers the legal aspects of this so as to protect both parties.
Regarding the type of images, I think the excerpt from our web page listed in Konador's post below pretty much sums it up. The only thing I would add is that pictures that offer a challenge to the puzzle maker are much more popular. What I mean is a photo with lots of detail, colour and interesting subjects (eg. a landscape with lots of colourful hot air balloons or a row of sparkling Harley motor bikes) make popular puzzles.
Based on my experience to date, most people do not buy puzzles based on the images in the gallery (although this may have something to do with the selection available) so dont expect to make much money. As the site becomes more popular this may change but I would rather not mislead anyone. If you are interested to contribute, drop me an e-mail with some (low res) samples of your work.
Enjoy the weekend folks,
Colin Southwell

Perhaps we can also have a reciprocal linking arrangement, where photographers who provide stock images for puzzles can have a link back to their DPC print gallery --- people browsing for puzzles may not order a stock photo for that, but might just decide to order a photo. |
