site like 500px really make you realize what a facelift this site needs.

i bet if you clean up the interface and add a really nice portfolio feature this site would really pick up.

In spite of the name, 500px didn't fit on my screen. Had to scroll left and right. I was getting seasick.

:) That's what happens when you name your site after a particular image size.

I don't get all the flickr hate. Use it for a while and it's perfectly easy to use, just like any other site. It's not like DPC is a paragon of site design.

i don't hate Flickr, i just opted against it since its soooo big, it seemed easy to get lost there, the difference to me is site like 500 px seem to showcase photos, i don't get that impression from flickr. flickr seems more about the community than the photos.

Yep. They "fixed" 500px two weeks ago and now it doesnt fit on 1024px wide netbook, and now you can no longer upload from mobile due to their ui being more focused on desktop.

I guess it's their way of ensuring that all uploaded images came from a desktop where you have access to basic photo editing softwares, for quality.

As for flickr, i dont know how many million members they have but my recent uploads have only been seen by 40 people or so since i uploaded them last month, and that's only because i joined some groups.

Eta.
Two days ago, i uploaded to 500px one of the photos i had on flickr, unnoticed since last year. Maybe i got lucky but it actually stayed on page 1, #1 spot of the popular photos for a few hours, and managed to hold on to the first few pages before making it back to page 1 yesterday and finally giving way to newer photos. It was a brief moment for my photo to shine in 500px. I never had it on flickr.

Yes, you've got it, and that is it's strength.

I love 500px. I think I ought to become a paying member and just throw my whole site on there. I like SmugMug, but it's expensive, and I'm not using it to its fullest.
