I'm sure this will be a fatal mistake, searched for the "newbie" forum before posting here. Just like to say hello!

I shoot with a Canon D60, and a Canon A60. Both great camera's IMO.

I do have a newbie-esque question right off the bat. If I want to submit photos to challenges, do I need to submit them from my portfolio? That is, upload them to my portfolio here at DPC, then link them to the challenge, or am I going to need an outside host?

Thanks!

Neither, when you submit for the challenge it will be like submitting to the portfolio. Besides if you put the picture in the portfolio it will show up and that wouldn't be a good thing when it comes voting time and someone sees your portfolio.

Hey there!

You actually upload the picture to the challenge itself. You can check it out by clicking on the challenge.. and see the setup for submitting a photograph. It's really made easy. I don't have a portfolio, as I'm not a paying member, but I -think- that the etiquette is thatyou don't put it in your portfolio at all.. or at least until after the challenge? I don't know about that part. But I suggest clicking on a challenge just to see the format for submitting.

You can submit and resubmit until the voting stage starts. The server time at the bottom of this thread is the timekeeper.

You actually get a workshop area to view your shots that we won't be able to see. Don't load into any other part of your portfolio or we will see them. Challenge entries are not to be discussed or revealed until the end of voting.

Good luck. Happy voting and commenting :)

Wow, thanks guys for helping me off to a great start. Didn't realize the etiquette invlolved, must admit, a bit nervous now about submitting pics!

So lemme see if I have this straight. If I want to submit a photo, submit it directly to the contest. Don't put the "same" pic in my portfolio, as the public will see it? Maybe that part confuses me. Does who took the shot stay anonymous until voting ends? Is that to keep the bias down?

But if I "DO" want to upload the same pic entered in a challenge, it should be in my workshop?.

Lastly, "Challenge entries are not to be revealed or discussed...". I take it, don't enter a photo into a contest, and then start a thread showing the same pic, asking oppinions?

Sounds like I better read the FAQ a few 10 times before posting. Thanks gang!

Challenges>Submitting photos>Topic in which you want to submit or just click on the topic in the challenge section and you will be brought to the submitting screen.

Make sure you read the Basic editing and Advance editing rules. Certain challenge have different rules.

The workshop area is used for placing a picture in which you can download a DPCPrint picture (See DPCPrints). As soon as the challenge ends it can immediate put it up for sale.

Putting up a picture for review/discussion/opinion that isn't related to your entry to perfectly fine.

You dont have to use the workshop for prints. The workshop is basically just a hidden part of your portfolio that only u can see. If you upload a print file to a challenge entry (which is automatically put in your portfolio when you submit to a challenge, no need to upload separately), no matter where abouts in your portfolio it is, the print will be available immediately after the challenge.

Yes, the shots stay anonymous until voting ends. Also, the comments that you make for your photograph as to how you took it, or what modifications were done.. that also stays private until after voting. That way, the voters go on only the shot itself.. not how it was set up, who shot it, etc. Keeps everything equal :)

Don't get too nervous about it.. it's fairly easy to follow along and, if you do something wrong, people are usually very nice about helping you to do the right thing instead.
