I have the 190xprob and think it a great investment. The bar just is either horizontal or vertical, there is no angling available, but the positioning of the legs in conjunction with the horizontal option means you can pretty much set any position you want. It's a very flexible piece of kit and very sturdy.

It cannot be. You need Vanguard for that.

i opted for the the 55xprob since it extends taller. im 6'-2 and it will get to my eye height without the center column extending. its heavier too, but wow is it solid.
i'm not sure if its just because i got the horizontal center post, but if it didn't go horizontal i would not be able to get it close to the ground as the center column doesn't invert, but again that could be different on the non horizontal models. |

It is; the old-style center column can be inverted.

Thanks alot Bear, I just spend $208 on a new Tripod. You just had to introduce me to the Vanguard...
On the plus side, there is a great deal at Abe's of Maine right now. Vanguard products are 12% off and the coupon ABESAVES takes another $10 off (of $150 order). I got the
Alta Pro 264 AT tripod and SBH 250 ball head
for $208 shipped. That's $40 cheaper than it would have been through Amazon! |

A 4 segment tripod will always be smaller when folded than a 3 segment. This is why you see them. They are less durable since the final segment must, by necessity, be a thinner diameter since it must fit into the other segments, as well. So, determine whether you need your tripod to be smaller when completely folded or not, and that's your answer. |

Cool. I watched some youtube movies from vanguard and it has two good features that manfroto doesn't: 1) the multi-angle center bar; 2) the spiked feet. Cool! But it is also a little bit more heavy and expensive.
I think I will go with the 190xprob. Probably with a ball head, the 486RC2. Any advices?
Best regards. |

i have a 55XPROB with a 322RC2... and a 190XPROB with a 222.... love them both. the 190 is good for when i want to move a lot or walk a good distance. the 55 is a brute, in weight, but also in strength. i would say i use the horizontal option about 20-30% of the time.. so i would strongly suggest that option..
(also, i use the 190 as a tripod for a rimfire bolt action pistol, so it will take all the abuse you can throw at it..) |

I would also check the Vanguard tripods out, they didn't stock them where I got mine so I didn't get the choice. |

They are light and much more pleasure to carry. I gave my 190 away and got myself the unknown SIRUI T1204X, simply because it is even lighter, more suitable for my situation. No, it is definitely not a Manfrotto, but it is something I can still take with me. |
Changed my mind and bought this benro on ebay:
//www.benro.cn/ensite/EnProduct.aspx?ParaId=1&id=154&ProductId=382
It is a carbon fiber with multi angle center bar. Just 1.4 kg. It will arrive in a month.
Thanks everyone for the answers. I will post a review here when it arrive.
