My question is: does is really make sense to buy CS5 now to have to pay the upgrade of $200 (or whatever in a couple of months to CS6? Are are we better off waiting until the end of March, pay the $200 for cs5 and get a free CS6 upgrade (if we can do it in the right time period) |
No longer a worry Wendy. I recently read that after a public outcry, Adobe reversed their new upgrade policy at least temporarily and CS3/4 owners will now have at least several months to get a discount on an upgrade to CS6 ('till Dec 31, 2012). |

Well, Adobe charged my card today so I guess I get my serial number. Yay! |

Hopefully my wife gets her version, we ordered it yesterday with her UF.edu email. Apparently Adobe is saying it is a marketing error, and they might not fulfil orders...can't wait to see how this plays out for them.
Guess I should call and see if they've charged her card yet. |

I just checked my order on their site and it still says pending verification. But, like I said, they did charge today and when I got the original receipt it said the card wouldn't be charged until verification was complete. I hope it comes through. It would really suck if they backed out after the fact. I can see stopping the deal from continuing, but not reneging. |

if they do buy the full version and then call your credit card company and say that becuase adobe was able to back out on fulfilling their end, you are allowed to the same. Dispute the charge.
i wonder if that wold work? |

I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. Some people on the slickdeals forum said they got their serial numbers today. So, it looks like the people waiting are getting them, while those calling to find out are being turned down. So I'll wait. |

I bet you will get it. My guess is it's just taking a little time because they got 100x more validation requests then they normally get :) |

Got it this morning! Apparently the verification site was overwhelmed, but they are honoring the deal for people that bought it before they pulled it. |

That is great news. I am so jealous. |

I know the huge deal that everyone was talking about has been taken down but Adobe still has teacher and faculty discounts that I was not aware of I guess.
Is this the full version of PS CS5 for $200? I thought this retailed for around $700. I can afford $200 sometime down the road I am sure and my wife works for the local University.

Yes, it is. And that's their standard student/teacher price. It's a shame you missed it, that's what I got for $40. |

Am I right thinking that in stores this product is in the neighborhood of $700?
Yeah it does suck for a lot of people I'm sure. $40 would have been a no brainer. |

Somewhere around there. Depending on where you buy it. |

right but the discount was applied to the student/teacher discount. it was 80% off that price not the full $700. you have to prove you are a student or teacher, not everyone can get it.
many companies offer student discounts on software, Microsoft and adobe being two of the most popular.
i bought two copies of win7 professional for $30 each, and i just got full blown office 2010 for a $100. Photoshop is always $200 from adobe and lightrooom i think was like $89 or something like that i forget.
i was hoping to get lightroom 4 at the 80% discount price but the code got pulled before i could get it. |

My work offered full office 2010 for $9.99 a while back. I was all over that deal. |
