I like the flow concept.

I want to know what makes a photograph "HD" with regards to the digital download purchases.
02/23/2012 02:33:43 AM · #52
I'm not sold on the flow concept. And they just deleted the Wall and activity page, so any messages you may have had on your wall have disappeared into the ether. I'm afraid I'm in the dislike phase at the moment.

I didn't notice the wall and activity page were removed. Strikes me as an odd choice. They are certainly limiting any social component of the site.

My flow is empty :(.

Whoa! The change was a surprise. No warning, no prior notice. I like the old layout.

I'm holding off on linking to my profile because I have a current challenge entry up there, but as far as changes go - I hope it's only half implemented right now! Flow seems to assume you follow many people - now when I visit the main site all I see is several duplicates of ~4 images, because I only have 5 contacts on 500px right now and they're not all uploading photos every hour. I also preferred the old look and the way when you view someones image you get a random selection of several other images of their on the right, instead of just the photo they upload immediately before and after that one. The wall feature being removed I don't understand. The integrated print selling feature, while it could be nice, it a bit troubling at the moment due to lack of information - for starters they state nowhere how much commission they take from each sale!

Yep. Now i have to remove the 500px filter from my spam folder because the individual email notices are now my only means of telling who did what on which photo of mine.

Ha, don't worry we wouldn't find it anyway!

The information is directly available if you try to enable prints from one of your images. They take 30% from the "prints" (which are only available as a 36" x 24" or 36" X 36" canvas at a flat price of $500(!!!!!)) and they give you $2.00 for each of the downloaded hi res images. If you choose to sell a canvas print, you have no option but to let the buyer have a hi res image for $2.99 (again a flat rate). you cannot turn that feature off.

//500px.com/store (see the bottom of the page for the rates you receive).

I have just restarted using 500px and upgraded to Awesome. It is great! IPad app and Lightroom 4 plugin are fantastic. Much better than anything else I have seen. I am planning to be much more active and setup my portfolio there.

just an online photo sharing site. in the flow section you get to to see what the people you are following like, upload, favorite, etc.

pretty simple interface with likes and follows.

mine is //500px.com/GlennDriver

I really like the site as there some quality photogrpahers on there. Very user friendly as well. Dont often get any constructive comments as most people are just trying to generate traffic for themselves. However, I've found that the more constructive comments I make, the more I tend to get back.

Cheers
Glenn

another cool thing is if i fave an image, people following me see that image in flow, so you can get some great exposure if you have lots of followers who have lots of followers.

I just added everyone in this thread this morning. Only three people added me the last time I looked.

Do you guys have the basic/free membership there, or paid? And is it worth it for the paid?
03/27/2012 01:48:53 PM · #70
i just have the basic, the only limitation i found was that i can only add 20 images per week... that's only an issue at first if you have a lot of images to upload.

if you want to create a professional portfolio, then I'd say upgrade, if not basic should suffice for most.

I went in with a big bang of 17 images. So far the highest rated ones are the same as those that would score highly at DPC. And ironically, the highest scoring one is the one I had as the Best of 2011 till I replaced it in the last minute with another image (I was being silly as usual ;)

My question to those who have used 500px for a while is: what is your strategy with images? Do you delete the lowest scoring ones? With the score going down with age should I replace them on a regular basis? What happens then to faves, comments and affections? I don't think I would like to have more than 2 pages at a time displayed. Any thoughts on that?

I really like Lightroom plugin. Apart from the export function it is also possible to view all stats and read comments in Lightroom! A better way than having to go to the individual image display.

PS I am planning to do some faving and commenting soon.

Don't worry about the score. Post the images you want to share and display.

The whole site just confused me. I only uploaded a few photos. I also don't like how they force a square crop in the thumbnail.

You can change what is displayed in the square
