Actually, I think it was embedded in one of your YouTube videos.

You could assemble something that runs MacOS of some kind, but what's the point after all?
You wouldn't get any warranty from apple, which is one of the main selling points of MACs, and you would need to buy again the mac versions of potentially expensive software, or running the pc versions in VM, which sounds like defying the purpose :)
Personally I would feel a bit constrained but the choice of software available for mac, but probably it's down to what I do.

Reinstall works every time :-). Did you manage to find which process did the popups? |

Got it fixed and it was something that wouldn't have occurred to me. I posted this on a technical forum and it sounded vaguely familiar to another member. I thought the other techies here might like to know what caused this odd problem.
The problem was a combination of two things:
-I use a custom hosts file to block browser requests going to known adware & malware domains. Normally these requests just go to the limbo of 127.0.0.1
-I had installed IIS a while back, trying to create a Webdav server. (Turned out home premium cannot create a Webdav server, but it has all the icons & dialogs to make it look like it will work).
Somehow, the tracking requests that were being derailed by the hosts file were being redirected to me through IIS as a password request dialog, rather than going to limbo. Simply turning of the IIS server fixed the problem.
Since this isn't my main computer, I didn't notice the problem until I was out of town on a training trip a few weeks ago and was using it to get online.
