Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get one light that can plug into a normal socket ( i'm in ontario, canada), I want to be able to use a 60" shoot through umbrella with it, mainly for portraits, weddings, bands.... I want it to have enough power to be able to underexpose backgrounds well. I was looking at an Alien Bee, but i was wondering if there was something else a little cheaper that would work just as good. Zack Aria's is always talking about the SunPak 120J, but I guess they don't make it anymore but something like that would be ideal.

Thank you.

The AB is prob the best bang for your buck.... I prefer Einsteins but they are a more $ then say an AB1600 now.

The sunpacks are hard to find, battery powered (if you can find a battery pack that would help) and way under the power of a big AB and you say mains power so you don't need the portability (which you can get with AB or other lights by using the vagabon mini anyway).

Thank you Robs... the AB800 is what I was looking at but people tell me to go with the 1600 or i'll regret it. i think the AB will be a good idea... i've been using an SB-800 but ... it's just not enough

an AB800 and a mini vagabond is the way to go.
