Canon has them on there site, but I can't find any
charts on Tamron or Sigma lenses.
Anyone know any good websites for this info? |

Photodo generally has them for plenty of lenses, although sometimes not the newer lenses. I'm not sure how often they update their database. Another issue is that if, for example, you check out one of the Sigma lenses, the MTF image won't load because the URI has an incorrect IP address. If you copy the URI for the image and repost with www.photodo.com instead of the IP address, you'll be able to see the image(s).

Last updated June 5th, 2000. Don't use if for 3rd party lenses. They have all made HUGE advances in the last 4 years...

This article on understanding MTF charts cautions that:
different manufacturers have different measurement procedures, and therefore while comparing MTF charts between lenses in the same line is possible, and is in fact very useful in making a purchasing decision, doing so between different manufacturer's MTF charts isn't.
it also says:
Why have I used Canon's charts? Simply because to my knowledge they are one of the few companies that regularly publishes such charts for all of their lenses.
Finally:
be aware that an MTF chart doesn't tell us everything that there is to know about a lens. Important variables such as vignetting, linear distortions of various sorts, and resistance to flare are among the things not measured. |

For those less technically trained, this site provides an excellent tutorial on MTF (modulation ttransfer function).
