I am seriously getting into Motocross photography and I would love some feedback on the shots from this past weekend. 4/10 Motocross Pics

Also, if anyone knows the legality of selling these on the open market, not just to the rider, I would love to hear about that as well. My thought is that since you cannot see the actual face on most of the shots, it's ok to sell them without permission...

Thanks in advance!

I think the shots are great... i'm think there shouldn't be a problem selling them on the open market. Keep up the good work!

Great shots! What lens did you use?

Thanks Rooster! I used the Canon 100-400mm.

Tina, the shots are fantastic. Almost uniformly so!

One thing you might want to note: I did notice in some of the shots that there are dark spots in the sky--perhaps water or dirt on your lens? These would be easy to fix in any case in PS, but just in case you didn't notice them.

Again, fantastic action shots. With my G2 I could only dream of those.

Thank you Neil! Yep, I did notice the spots in the sky. I didn't want to process them out on every photo, so I figured I'd wait to take care of that on any orders. I appreciate you pointing that out though! I'd really hate to miss that before printing. :-)

Tina

Very nice work! You have a very good eye for action shots.

I hope you used a large zoom lens and did not actually get that close to the track :)

Those are some great shots. I think my favorites are the ones where you can see the bike and rider in relation to the ground. I guess it gives a better sense of height. I'm no expert though.

You Go Girl ! Red Honda is SHARP ! Perhaps what Phil Askey meant when HE said " silky smooth " . These are great ! Maybe I will buy a Canon after all !

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback... helps to approach these riders and parents with confidence!! :-)

Calvus - I did use a big zoom lens, but the sideline boundaries are actually pretty close to the track, so the majority of those are taken between 100 and 200mm.

Kevin - You would be doing yourself a huge favor to buy a Canon ;-)

#92 is my absolute favorite rider, he pushes all the envelopes and will be a 'I knew him when...' someday. He's a fabulous rider. He's also the subject of my March Free Study shot.

Thanks again!!! :-)

Generally photo releases are required for identifiable persons and/or property. As the bikes are numbered, they might fall into that category.

well done, and consistantly so...

keep it up.

That is something that was bugging me, and I wondered if it would come up here. Granted the helmets cover the face enough, but the number is identifiable to a few people. Keeping in mind though, that a number on a bike can be used for more than one rider.

I still think I'd rather be on the safe side and not sell any photos with a bike number, or remove the # in PS.

Nice work. I'd like to see some closer up and some starting shots where the entire pack is included.

I love #215! Especially the dirt flying in the air!

Thanks Hallie and Glen... :-)

The photos in this series are taken during a practice day - this was not a race. Spectators are not allowed on the track during practice or races. Unfortunately the start line faces away from the area I'm allowed to be in. I'm working on getting a meeting with the owners of the track to see about some additional access.

OMG these are incredible. I can see people hanging these up as posters in their rooms.

Very nice! As an ATV rider/photographer I am partial to "Yellow ATV", but 234(a) is my favorite.

Can't you get a "pit" pass? You may have to exchange some photos for it. but I'll bet someone would love to have you take pictures of the pit area etc.

Thanks Welland and Eric. I'm glad you like the pictures. These comments are really helpful for me. I'm actually shooting the races next weekend.

Eric, you might like some of the pictures from 3/27. There was an ATV freestyle rider out there.

Glen, I am working on getting onto the track ... I spoke with a gal who scores at the races and knows some of the folks in charge. Hopefully I'll have clearance for the race on the 24th, otherwise it would be sometime after that.

The track has already asked if I would post some pictures on their web site, but I don't have any details yet about resolution and if I'd be able to retain a copyright statement on them.
