Sigma 175-500mm lens, only used about 12x, comes with case and uv lens. Paid 1149. cdn. plus 99.00 cdn for protective filter. (equals 940.94 @ 1.32 exch.) will sell for 700.00 US
if interested let me know. Comes with its own case too. Still have box.

if interested selling because bought a 100-400mm usm L lens with IS to take on safari and not need tripod, and they cover close to same range and I got a 2x converter, so sigma lens is redundant.

i think maybe aiming at 800mm -w/o a tripod is a bit much, even with the image stabilization. thats equiv to 1280mm on your digital rebel...

being you are going on a safari - i would practice with it handheld at full zoom, and distant subjects, and see if you like the results before you head off -w/o a tripod.

		Bump
 ...

I can do hand held with IS at 640 easy down to 60/sec with my 100-400L IS
 Crystal clear

I can't get a single clar shot with my 1.4 converter. Turns the pics to mush. That 896mm with the converter, way to much with handheld at any */sec

		AHHHH I am dumb!
 it is a 175-500mm (NOT 300mm)
and the aperature is f 5.0 to 6.3

soup you are right hand holding with the 2x converter is not so great. Even without it I do get some blurred shots, but we do get bean bags to use, I would like to get a bean bag before i go. I am very happy so far with the 100-400 L lens in terms of details it is amazing and the tripod does save my wrist from the heaviness of it. I do need to practice more

		| How does the Sigma compare to the Canon? |

		| I find they would be hard to compare in some ways, the sigma especailly extended at all needs a tripod, but with one I found the images to be good, using a remote or self timer increases the sharpness a bit more even. And the canon i have now is a L lens and 2x the price. |

maybe you can pack a light monopod to take with you... could help you with the lense weight on safari. good luck, can't wait to see your pics!
