...you know you hold the camera up and take your own picture in your bedroom, outside at a cafe, or even cheek to cheek with your friends. Use either point or shoot or Hasselblad or anything between... use your imagination and be creative... Such as, how about a crime scene behind you, or you're in a prison :P
Basic editing :) |

great I dea- but I would propose to make it minimal editing- only crop.
and call the challenge "Social Media Avatar"
or make it expert editing- that might be really cool as well.

Does this mean we have to shoot ourselves at arm's length, peeking coyly up at the lens while making a duckface and showing off our cleavage (if we have any?)? Oh yuck.
And minimal editing doesn't allow cropping, my only nitpick with that ruleset :-/ |

Taking a cue from blindjustice and snaffles, call the challenge "Social Media Avatar with Cleavage". Oh yeah. |

point your phone at the mirror and take a picture with flash. make sure the flash obliterates EVERYTHING in the picture except for part of one hand and one leg. |

thats called a SMAC in text-speak.
I have thought about it and the expert editing would really work, and man- think of the fun shots and backgrounds.
Need these fun challenges to keep the creative juices flowing. |

It wouldn't need to be, but it would open up the possibilities.

Changing the background would be extremely funny, we could create something really strange. In any case or minimal or expert IMHO. |

Exactly right, you could theoretically put yourself in front of the statue of liberty, or the moon, or something else. makes it a whole lot more interesting. |

But minimal takes out the whole genre of these photos where you are standing with others and crop them out so that parts of their bodies are still in the frame, and then you use MS Paint to try to cover them up :) |
