OK, some specific questions:
1.) Is the near-vertical mark in the top section actually a split, or just a very straight scratch?
2.) If a split, is this part of the function of the part?
3.) Is the center layer copper?
4.) Is the powdery-looking surface below the coppery layer actually corroded, or is it something else?
5.) Assuming the part is round, what's the approximate outside diameter?

HAHA..ok, good questions, I'll answer them this way.

Its a scratch and irrelevant to figuring out what it is.
I don't know the composition off hand, but I'll look them up later and post them after a few more failed guesses :)
Look at the image information for both the camera and lens to figure out the size. The lens was about 10 cm away.
