Been thinking about all the NIK Software lately and pondering their complete collection. It's $299 for the lightroom/aperture version, which isn't a bad deal. But would I miss out on functionality/efficiency by not using Photoshop?
If you have any NIK Software, do you have the Lightroom version or the Photoshop version? Do you prefer one to the other? Why, why not?

I am probably wrong as I haven't use the Photoshop version but I thought that the NIK software is identical in both cases except for the modules that use layers. |

Think as Margaret says it is the same version.I have Silver Efex Pro 2 and can use it in both you would use it within Photoshop so you missout on nothing.{it makes it own layer}
Yes just checked it opens from Lightroom in it own window as it does in Photoshop then saves back to whichever you opened with in a new layer if in Photoshop.

I have both Nik software and LR and LR3 has come a long way.. I LOVE IT!!! I only use the NIK software every now and to be honest you can do everything the Nik software does inside LR or PS. It might take you a little longer to find a preset but if your looking to purchase some editing software you should go with LR first then if you still want NIK buy it later.
If your not in a hurry to buy either then watch this thread because it can help you save some money on both...

BTW scroll down that thread a little bit and see if you can still get Free Nik Software’s Color Efex Pro 3.0 Standard! for free.

Is anyone having problems with the Color Efex Pro 4 in the way some of the presets are not showing up, they are either black, or have color lines through them, like red/blue/green. Some of the presets are just showing up with all the colour removed, when I look at an example on a photo.
I have upgraded my LR to the 3.6 version. Recently bought a desktop and installed the Color Efex on it, it was working fine on the laptop prior.
It's frustrating when this happens. |
