hello.
i wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem on DPC. i have an image with a slow fade from bright to darker tones across the image. it looks fine in my photo editing software as a raw file after editing, as well as a jpeg for upload to DPC when viewed in both my main photo editing software (Capture NX2) and another graphics program (ACDsee Canvas X).
however, when i upload the image to DPC, the smoothly graded fade becomes very pixelated in some areas, and there is a color shift to boot, even when viewed on exact same monitor
any idea if i am doing something wrong? is there a way to process image before loading so this can be minimized?
many thanks.

Are you sizing down to 800 px before saving as jpeg? If not, the the site does, and it can cause issues like this. |

Your image editing programs are much more articulate than the internet when it comes to display. You can see a larger gamut of colors and the gradations are smoother. You can ask Photoshop to indicate which areas are out-of-gamut for various color models, including sRGB, but I am not sure about the programs you are using.

Your pixelation problem sounds like posterization. The color shift probably means there is a mismatch between the color space in which you edited it and the (assumed) sRGB space in which it is being displayed. Make sure you are converting to sRGB prior to saving out to web-sized JPEG. Not assigning that profile, ind you, but converting to it.

Actually, it looks fine on my Android phone, too. I am downsizing before saving for DOC upload, so issue should not be due to website process.
I'll take a look at the gamut issue... |

after several iterations, i saved as a tiff, then passed it though infranview to save as jpeg, and that seemed to work...
very odd, since there was nothing really out of gamut, and original color profile was Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3002 (and switching to the other option of sRGB IEC61966-2.1 didn't resolve the issue).
thanks for the assistance.
