Thanks to one of our antipodean members ( MargaretN), PennyClick and I are now in possession of a practically-unused Lensbaby Composer, complete with wide-angle and close-up attachments. I've been wanting one of these for quite a while, and Margaret offered too good a price to be resisted :-)

Here's a snapshot of the packaging, AFTER I've had at it to extricate the Baby. It was a Cesarean... :-)

Teaser title -- I was looking forward to a string quartet. This is the next best thing, I suppose.

Nice one Robt. - So can we look forward to topazed, HDR-ed, lens-babied entries from now on?

Well, I've HAD a Lensbaby for a while, the 3G. The one with the threaded posts. And I had fun with it, but in the end it was more of a chore to use than I wanted it to be, and I didn't use it that much. The Composer's on a ball socket, and it has a normal focusing mechanism, so it's much more intuitive to use in a hurry. I actually expect Penny might end up using it more than me, it's right up her alley conceptually. But we'll see.

In the meanwhile, in my experience Lensbaby doesn't work real well for HDR and tone mapping; it has huge chromatic aberration basically built in, and those processes wildly exaggerate this. Color Efex Pro, on the other hand; THAT's got some lovely take-your-Lensbaby-for-a-stroll modules :-)

Yep. I can attest to that! LB composer, three exposures, HDR/tonemapped.

And if anyone could have possibly wondered what Robert did with his old LB, he was kind and offered it to me. :) But i made a promise to him, i wont sell, but i will pass it a long to another photographer when i choose to stop using it :)

I am SO excited to get it! although i cant wait to start taking pictures! (insert excited scream here!)

I misread the thread title as "Bear_Music has taken up Composting". Glad to know that you're not after all accelerating your deterioration, R.

Not composting, no, but shucking the occasional clam... Lensbaby Macros are cool.

And shooting the autumn grasses, the winter oak, in afternoon light...

What was wrong with your compositions before?

To answer spiritualspatula's comment on one of your photos, Lensbaby can be used with extension tubes.

ETA: I have tried it, but don't have time to look for any samples right now.

In the wrong hands, I suppose it could be called the Lensbaby Composter.

Congrats on the new toy, Bear (and Ms. McNutty). I'm happy with my antique LB 2.0 for when the mood strikes me. Maybe a January LB SC is in order.

You can also stack the macros for multiplied magnification.

Exactly my case, I have "composted" all my Lensbaby shots. Good to see it is now in good hands :)

Lensbaby Composer is on my long mental wishlist. I find Lensbaby 2 quite tricky because of its inability to lock focus. Just wish I had money for all the things I want:)

Have seen the different months of Lens Baby shots etc and thought I might invest in one.

Then I thought long and hard and realised I would probably not use it enough to warrant the cost. For the occasions that I want a similar effect, I have just purchased another of the TOPAZ products to add to my collection - TOPAZ Lens Effects.

Whilst it's not the same it's close enough for me and offers other effects also. Best part is it's currently on special for $29 (a savings of $50)

If you download Fusion Express (which is free) this plugin can also be used in Lightroom.

Here's the thread advising of the coupon code.
