Congratulations -- firm restraint often works ... :-)

Oh, I was excrutiatingly polite in the email to Westjet. I just went with a distinctly frosty but polite tone - useful things like that learned from various British relatives.

After all some poor unsuspecting potato muffin at the other end has to read it, so as long as it's civil - and it was - you're more likely to get through to someone who could make things better.

So far no abject email back, grovelling for forgiveness. Grrrr.

Interesting thing about the 'Holding' option but I am pretty sure WestJet's site doesn't have that option.

ETA: Let's face it, this stunt is so skanky that they even make the gas stations look good. Not long ago I was tanking up at $1.14/litre. As I finished and was literally walking to the store to pay, the price rolled over to $1.19. I was aghast, but was charged only the original amount of $1.14. Thank gawd.
