Interesting article on fashion photographer Lillian Bassman. The last two paragraphs:

Originally posted by NY Times Article:

Ms. Bassman, though, ultimately returned to fashion photography, in the early â90s, after her friend the painter Helen Frankenthaler, who had been renting studio space from her, found the bag of negatives that had been sequestered in the carriage house. Ms. Bassman, who had always been drawn to the manipulation of images, began altering the pictures, bleaching out backgrounds, for instance, to produce dramatic contrasts. As a result they now seem even more ethereal than they did in their original form, and immune to the beholderâs efforts to carbon-date them.

Five years ago, at 87, Ms. Bassman discovered the glories of Photoshop and so began a new chapter in digital photography. She works every day in her studio, toying and reconfiguring from about 11 in the morning until dinnertime, and claims a proud proficiency with her computer. It is a skill however that does not extend to the use of e-mail or Google. âIâm not interested,â she said, âin any of that.â

A master...

Patrick Cavan Brown

I truly believe I want to follow his style.

Very encouraging collection. I saw his work in Popular Photography magazine, it was amazing. Exactly the style I want to achieve with flashes.

Check him out.

Pretty excellent local contrast in BW, processing somewhat reminiscent of Salgado's printing:

Some (if not all) Jill's pictures are shiny. I asked Frank Doorhof what kind of editor could do that kind of photos and his response was "No editor, just good lighting and some dodge and burn".

I am not sure... he is probably right since he is a light pro. However, I also wanted to ask here if there is any photo editor that can give that kind of shiny skin results.
