I shoot with a 30D with a gazillion actuations. The shutter seems fine. However, today, the shutter *button* didn't seem to want to work. At first, It thought maybe weak batteries, but new batteries didn't fix it.

I have a battery grip, so if I turn it vertically, it shoots fine (thus thinking that it is the shutter button).

I've read some online and this seems to be a problem with the 30D, though it usually happens much sooner than this.

I *know* the camera needs replacing, but I'd really rather not do it now ($$$), so do any of ya'll know what i'm talking about or maybe how it needs to be fixed?

eta: I just read that this issue can also make camera shake worse. I think this may have started some time back and the decline was just so gradual I didn't realize it was happening?

Dec 2008 Youtube video showing how to fix the shutter button. It also said that the fix is typically $300.

Good luck...

ETA: I just watched the video, it's something beyond my skills...

The shutter on my 20D went crazy after I had the camera a couple of months. Canon quoted me standard $259 repair job for a shutter problem. Precision Camera quotes a generic $180 to repair a 30D. I sent them a lens earlier this year. It was gone for about 3 weeks and has worked great since.

I FOUND A LOCAL REPAIR PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They said this was common problem with the 30D, they have the part in stock and they will fix it for $115. :)

I can also get expedited service for $20.

So, I'm dropping it off this afternoon, and picking it up Wednesday in time for the family shots on Thursday.

Wooohoooo.

I reckon I will also get my sensor cleaned, etc. while they are in there.

WooHoooo. Fixed.

I can tell a major difference -- apparently, this has been "dying" for some time.

happy camper.
