looking for a one or two day winter getaway for me and my wife, actually its going to be a surprise Christmas present. i want to due it early next year in January. We will both be off from school for the month so i would probably go during the week. i want to stay somewhat local (read no planes) so some where in the northeast US, i live in NJ.
The problem its going to be cold, so im looking for ideas for winter getaway, she doesnt ski and i haven't been in years becuase of my knees so the obvious is off the table. not to a city either, rather go relax for a few days.
any idea on where to go?

How about the Catskills for some winter photography?

Well, I'm a big fan of Cape Cod in the winter. Bleak & Beautiful. But not a lot going on, except "nature exposed". If you want nightlife etc, this isn't the place. It depends on your budget, too.

| Vermont is always good for Winter getaways. Woodstock and Stowe are both great choices - great scenery, wonderful restaurants, galleries etc, and enough outdoor activities that don't involve downhill skiing - sled rides, snow shoeing, XC skiing, etc.... |
