I was thinking the opposite might be interesting. Expert editing fs. Or two side by side. Open member free study!

Free studies are so big, it's a bit of a marathon to vote and comment. How about a split round of free study - expert, minimal and advanced editing options?

Never had a three-way before.

A three way "pick your poison"" exclusive challenge, Min, Adv, and Exp. would be a good solution.
It would be interesting to see how many entries each of the three would get.
It would mess up the number keepers though to have three FS blue ribbons at once.

Prediction:
Minimal editing entries: 17
Expert editing entries: 35
Advanced editing: 223

Then game plan strategy would be important too. I feel that those numbers are about right, except maybe low on the Expert editing.

Couldn't agree more. Minimal Editing is nice for an every GREAT ONCE IN A WHILE challenge.

Great and fun idea - and I can tell you right away - I'll go with minimal...

That's what I meant - a three way exclusive challenge - options for all tastes... Why not, once in while, to put some zest on these challenges?

For the same reason, would welcome a "single" Minimal FS - at least once a year...

And on the same token, have one Expert FS per year as well.

how about we ban minimalist editing along with basic editing? :)
11/17/2011 09:27:33 PM · #18
There is nothing stopping anyone from entering a Free study with a minimally edited photo...

I would even go so far as to suggest all the minimal editing lovers band together and create your own artistic coven... err uhm, group similar to f64 and rebeliously post minimal edits until your hearts content. You can even start your own thread and give out minimal awards to those who champion the cause for every challenge regardless of the ruleset. I think a great role model for that is the Posthumous club. They have really made the effort to get their beloved style of photography accepted by all on DPC. I think they have succeeded.

this is straight out of my camera:

and this is my edited entry:

with the exception of the crop and a curve adjustment i really didn't do anything else, how do you we the voters know what what was edited?

You're right - nothing's stopping that, but you're moving away from the point, Ed, which is: the original proposal of having a FS Challenge with minimal editing.

As it is evident that not everyone likes Minimal - which is also true for both Expert and Basic - I find a cool idea of having an exclusive triple challenge with the 3 editing options, so that everyone will be happy! ;-P

As a bonus, that would be a way to gauge the interests on the different editing modes as well...

@ mike_311 Good point. I stopped claiming to be all knowing and wise when I got married. But if there's a minimal club then everyone will know who's in. I suppose ribbons would have to be awarded post challenge. No biggy...

@ gg3rd Yes it was off topic. Listening is not one of my stronger skills either, but I got lots of opinions!!! ;D
