Just a quick practice combination I did. Needs much work but I wanted to see what I could do with some old shots I had. I really see the importance of shooting specifically for combining images.

My experience with this is limited, I'd like to learn more. Count me in.

Am I doomed if I don't do layers yet...I'm terrified!!!

How did I not see this thread? Too late to participate?

One of the hardest things for me is getting the tones and "feel" of color densities to blend in so composites don't look like collage, where individual parts jump off the page. Getting light angles and shadow hardness similar enough to possibly convince a cursory glance is step two.

Yes -- but there is no reason to be afraid of layers -- they will make your file a bit larger, in exchange for offering you infinitely more control over what you are doing.

Remember that there are two different kinds of LAYERS, adjustment layers and those containing actual pixels, and that these are separate from CHANNELS, where the pixels for each color and selections/masks are saved. In addition, any adjustment layers will have a temporary channel/mask associated with it, which you can only see/edit when the adjustment layer is active.

I'm a layers addict. The erase tool terrifies me. It is so permanent. Drop an image variant in layers add a mask, and paint on the mask to your heart's content with whatever density you like, shifting back and forth between black to hide and white to reveal. It is so much more forgiving of errors than editing directly on your image.

I'm no expert but I'd love to learn. I'll give it a try when I have time!

This is exactly what I am having a problem with, if my kitchen (which I am supposed to be painting) got as many brushes on it as my images it would definitely be done by now! :)

I am shocked, stunned and my flabber has never been so gasted.
I thought you had this all sewed up.
You have some real nice images considering you now seem so much more delicate.
