Awesome thanks voter 27!
Don't like voter 28. Dropped me to a flat 6.

Last few challenges are killing me, but I just can't quit... I guess taking photos (and getting low votes) is my addiction...
sitting around 5
meh! |

Of late, nobody likes my work but me, lol...so, not sure if it's time to pony up again or mosey on...15 days to decide! Ugh! Love the experience, but hate what it's become as for most it seems to be more about out voting others than contributing with comments and helping others learn. I'm still learning, thus mega low votes and no explanations doesn't help. Never used to be that way around here. Sigh! (Not quite as bad, but was a bit like this...) SIGH! |

Bouncing, bouncing, bouncing...
Was back up to a 6.3, back down to 6.1.
I'm currently at 6.1, and I've had more low votes on this one than I've had with my two happy finishes last night. I would have thought if people were trying to manipulate results, that they'd hit everyone. But maybe they just missed the challenges that ended last night. :)
Plus -- realize that people probably have wide ranges of ideas and tastes when it comes to this challenge. I think of grain as vintage, old photos. Some of those it enhances the photo, some it detracts. My 12 year old son (who has an entry in, btw) probably has never even seen any of the old family photos, so he doesn't really have that background. If people haven't really explored the photos on DPC, they might not have seen the funky, artsy photos where grain makes things more intriguing. So if people are experiencing this without much background, they'll probably hate most of them. Simply because the first thing a lot of people do is try to get rid of grain in their picture.
I expect mine to have wild swings this week. |

I glanced through quickly and have to say I did not see one single picture worth a 3 or 4. Will vote later but these scores are totally beyond me including my own! |

I am very new to photography and indeed very new to DPC. I must say that from a newbies perspective its very hard to take a bashing in every challenge lol. I wouldnt mind so much if people that voted 1's and 2's would give a comment as to why in order for me to improve but that never seems to happen. I also think that maybe TVC might be a better name for this site lol T.actical V.oting C.hallenge. I have never given anybody lower than a 5 not because im trying to be Mr Nice Guy but simply beacause if i really dont like the picture that much ill just move on to the next there are plenty of them after all lol |

Ha! there must be a whole bunch of us "NOvember kids".
I just got mine, too.
LOL - for me it was a "no-brainer" (and you can take that any what you want.)
I just paid up at once so I'm good for another year.
It probably has to do with update addiction... |

In a way, not using the entire voting scale and skipping challenge entries you don't like is similar to TVC - you are applying your own rules and skewing results by not voting on all entries.
From the Voting Rules / Guidelines page: "rate entries on a scale of 1 to 10. A score of 1 is a âbadâ photo, and a score of 10 is a âgoodâ photo".
Then again, you've only cast 23 votes so I guess the impact is still slight at this point. :-) |

Thank you very much this is the point I was making. For a new person this is the sort of information that helps |

Essentially, this is a Free Study Challenge with a "twist". Most folks entered a given picture and just added some grain to it. Some didn't even bother to add grain. However, IMO, there are few that used grain in their photo to add to its impact...it was more of an after thought, which in many cases did the opposite.
Definitely notice a stratification of my votes into low-mid-high depending on how grain was incorporated into the image. |

Wow, I might have to post a "what's wrong with my photo" after this is done. I cannot believe I'm sitting at 4.7 on an image I was sure would be high 5s to low 6s. :-/ |

One thing I learned in this challenge is that *the grain* you see at 3500 pixels when processing doesn't always show up well at 800 pixels. You often have to ramp up the grain more than you expect. |

i had to do this (ramp up the grain in the image). i viewed my entry after uploading and the grain didn't have the same impact at 800 pixels. |
