There was talk that the Sigma 50-150 f2.8 was going to come out in OS
This would be a great portrait lens if it was sharp enough at f2.8 |

Originally posted by spiritualspatula: My overall view, and one that is confirmed by many reviews, is that Tamron makes sharp lenses with lacking autofocus. Sigma makes lenses with lower sharpness/contrast but fast AF. One of these may be better suited to your needs than the other. Any 70-200 is going to be large and heavy, though the Tamron is actually somewhat smaller and lighter. An in-depth review of the Tamron 70-200 can be found over at DPReview (the link is to the conclusions page, but you can read the whole thing). Similarly, here is the Sigma review. There is a side-by-side comparison within those reviews as well, comparing them to each other as well as to the Canon and Nikon 70-200 2.8. |
yeah im seeing this too in my research that the AF is really lacking on the tamron, im starting to lean to the canon 70-200L f/4. my goal is better sharpness and it seems the non iS 70-200 will be comparable light handling in performance to the 18-135 f/5.6 IS. plus at 25 ounces its not all that heavy, unlike the tamron 2.8 weighing it at 4.2 lbs! |
