Something happened, and now all of a sudden I don't have enough Memory to run basically any of my programs. That means no Photoshop, which again means I cant edit photos to submit. GAH!

moe than likely not a problem with cookies, how many programs do you have running at once?
you may want to clear your internet history and have it delete the temporary internet files, also make sure your trash bin (recyle bin) is empty.
just a few first quick things to try

Depends on which browser you are using, but if it's IE 6x
Click 'Tools'
Then 'Internet Options'
On the General Tab, second section click 'Delete Cookies'
I don't know that this will free up enough space, but deleting Temporary Internet Files (done in the same place) might give you more space. |

I use IE, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick talk about how to do this on AOL browsers. I update a website for a summer camp, and everytime I update it the director isn't able to see the changes because he has it cached. So any help on the cookies and temp files on AOL would be great. Thanks in advance.

I use to have the same problem when I had too many save points for restoring. Turned it down a bit and I was fine. It hogged up about a 1GB and I only have about 3GB to play with. Why not upgrade to a larger harddrive it's so cheap now? I don't think that it's worth it to really upgrade my Pentium II.
Clearing all but the most current save point will bring back memory, but it may mean if you have problems you can't restore to a much later date.

1) Go to your task bar and see which programs are running. You can turn them off from there.
2) Rid your startup menu of programs you don't need to automatically load when you start your computer.
3) Buy as much RAM as you can afford. It's the best and cheapest upgrade you can do to your computer. |

I don't know anything about AOL browsers... but the caching of web pages isn't usually handled through cookies. When you make changes, all the director has to do is hit refresh on his browser and he'll see the changes you've made.
Are there cookies programmed into the summer camp web site, and if so, what are they for? (i.e. remembering visitors to the site, remembering passwords on a users machine, etc.?)

I got AOL & this usually works ; Preferences - Font,Text, graphics - @ bottom of page You'll see Graphics preferences . This should be set for 40 megs , to reset lower number to 10 megs & click reset . This will clear it . Also , try running AOL computer checkup , AOL will come into your computer & fix it for you while you watch . Good Luck ! |

You might want to check out this program: Maxmem. I have it running on my computer all the time. I only have 512MB of RAM, and it seems to keep the system running very smooth. It's amazing how much physical memory is wasted by programs that don't release the RAM after they're finished running. |

I know that the cached pages aren't the same as cookies. I figured the since the place to delete both are right near each other in the options in IE that it might be the same in AOL.
I usually have to tell him to hold down the control button and hit reload on AOL to get the new pages to come up. That only works when I remember to remind him, and I usually don't when I just send him an email about the changes. We don't use any cookies on the website though.
Thanks for the reply.

Actually, it sounds like you may have a spyware issue. I would suggest downloading and running Spybot - Search & Destroy. Just be sure the first thing you do after loading it is update it, so you have the most recent spyware definitions, before you scan.
You may also want to run Adaware as well.
Running those two should clean all the crap off your computer.
