And I guess the foliage doesn't have to be on the tree, as most of our trees are bare. |

They will *probably* vote highest for examples of broadleaves (e.g. maple) in the orange/red/yellow range.
I suppose you could shoot in/convert to black and white, and then make them any color you want in a duo- tritone image ... |

Heh, you will probably want to choose a destination other than the Everglades.... Sawgrass and palmtrees make for shitty fall foliage. ;) |

I'll join in with the complainers. It's hard to dispute that if you want quintessential fall foliage that New England is the place to be. Unfortunately fall foliage peaks in early October in northern and central New England. Yeah, I know that the challenge doesn̢۪t exclude green foliage but it̢۪s clear that timing is chosen to coincide with color. For the second year this challenge is too late to include some of the most beautiful foliage that can be seen anywhere in the world.
If there is a Foliage III please consider running it for a longer period of time and start it in late September.
ETA - Not to be too much of a whiner I don't think you can define Oct 24th - Nov 6th as "A two week challenge during the height of the fall foliage season."

Well as long as we're complaining, babies and toddlers happened about 16 years too late for me :)
But it always happens...I went to shoot Foliage in Rickets Glen and the Catskills last week. That was peak in Ricketts Glen anyway. |

LOL, I might be able to find some leaves still on a tree somewhere, but most of them are down here. Problem is, timing all depends on where you go. In Napa valley, color was just getting started last week, probably not peak for a couple weeks yet. On the eastern side of the Sierras, lots of aspen color. In the lower elevations of the Front Range near Fort Collins, CO there was plenty of color last weekend, but up in Estes Park, way past peak. In Wisconsin, way past peak.

Where are the d***ed DNMC literalists when you need them? The challenge is "foliage" -- which means leaves or the leafy parts of plants. There is nothing about Fall/Autumn, colors, deciduousness, or anything else like that ...

Wish I had an abundance of lovely leaves like that down here in the U.S. ...but made do with what I could find and what I have.

I wish I'd gone out this week, we're getting a Nor'easter here tomorrow and there might not be any leaves left when it's over. |

Which is why I made an early suggestion before the challenge was even announced that the shooting period be something like the October 1st to November 1st to allow shots we had already taken during the varying peak periods where we live. I guess it wasn't considered. We had our first snow late yesterday and throughout the evening. Not much accumulation, but I doubt I'll have a chance to get anything better than what I took during the real peak color days. Busy working so unfortunately I might be able to enter this one, and I was looking forward to it.

We went out today, drove a couple hours, to utterly no avail; just no usable swathes of color on the cape yet, and perhaos will not be this season after the NorEaster has its way with us. Try again Sunday.

I'm going to try Sunday as well. How much snow are you expecting Bear? We're only forecasted for 1 to 2 inches, but heavy rain first (which is happening now) and possibly high winds. |

The storm moving through New England now is the same storm which clobbered northern Colorado on October 26. It's a mean and evil spirit. Two cars of family members were totaled during the event by falling trees. It was a war zone. Our beautiful fall foliage peaked around October 1. However, I'll see what I can do with vestigial vegetation.

No snow expected here but the forecast for Sunday morning is for winds at 40-45 mph with gusts of 75-80 55-60 mph.
ETA: Latest forecast is not as bad!
